I can guarantee you that none of the people involved (who have actual stakes in it, at least) is/was acting in bad faith. The true problem, at least in my eyes, is that technical people generally think they are above humanities. But that doesn't necessarily involves any malice.

That is not even remotely close to how conferences actually work? Just because someone say something on the conference doesn't mean it's a law. Events are first and foremost a space for contributors to share what they want to say, not to showcase some official direction of the project or anything.

You explained why it was locked, but the elephant in the room is that it was marked as confidential. There was no need for it to be hidden away.
Locking is one thing, and I can personally understand why it was used, e.g. GitLab's non-existent moderation tooling, but marking it as confidential was an overkill and reeks.
