@matt@toot.cafe Anything that sufficiently embeds itself in the economy will find good and bad use cases associated with it. Once we have a car-oriented society, there will be cases both of lives saved by someone being driven to the hospital and others where someone's dog got run over. I agree we should look at the good and the bad, but adding up individual cases is quite hard.

@futurebird@sauropods.win From another angle, I worry about the opposite, that we'll take its word when it confirms our preconceptions (which it's trained to do).

The hidden villains of the dastardly ICE action in Minnesota (and elsewhere in the U.S.) are the administrations from Clinton onward who built up regularisation debt and primed the situation for an actively bad actor to exploit.

@futurebird@sauropods.win I find it evolutionarily puzzling that cats expect us to solve their problems.

@davidcelis@xoxo.zone Nice piece. My experience is different - for me using Claude Code has made coding fun again. I got to the stage in my career where I was overwhelmed by the accidental complexity of programming. Claude's raised the proportion of my time engaged in what I regard as the essential complexity of problems I'm trying to solve.

@matt@toot.cafe As it happens, I'm in favour of using LLMs for coding, but I don't find it easy to evaluate the balance of goods and harms.

@StompyRobot@mastodon.gamedev.place @cstross@wandering.shop The lawsuit succeeded on the point that works were pirated e.g. through PiLiMi rather than obtained legitimately. The judge ruled that the training itself was fair use.
