I am very disappointed in Scouting America bending the knee to the Trump Administration. One of the "woke" Merit Badges they have officially ended as of yesterday... Citizenship in Society.

The MB focuses on Ethical Leadership and was attacked because it dares to focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The examples used throughout the MB material are incredibly relevant to Scouting and situations youth (and adults) may encounter in their Scouting journey and beyond.

Shame on Scouting America.

AI-generated image. May contain factually correct Republican platform focal points.
@Natasha_Jay@tech.lgbt apologies but I did use #AI to make the Republican counter-platform infographics.

@jplebreton@mastodon.social I agree we have to look deep and consider the implications. DDT has taught us this. Plastic will teach us this.

@Bradley_JF@mastodon.online @DemocracyMattersALot@mstdn.social Amtrak has its value, don't be unreasonable. We took Amtrak roundtrip from Sacramento to the Bay area for $135 for one adult and 3 kids. It was great for the situation. Would I drive my EV next time? Probably :)

@ClariNerd@mastodon.social We have had many challenges with the boys and girls in our Troop, and almost every situation begs material from Citizenship in Society. Middle school and high school kids are learning how to negotiate and resolve conflicts. Helping them learn to do so ethically is the prime aspect of being "morally straight" I DO see where this administration took offense to teaching MORALS and ETHICS.

@jplebreton@mastodon.social I dunno, it's pretty relative. Then: Water carriers Now: Indoor plumbing. Repaired by plumbers Then: Chimney Sweeps Now: Central HVAC. Repaired by HVAC technicians Then: Lamplighters Now: Electric lighting. Repaired by electrician Then: Coachmen Recently: Taxi drivers Now: Uber/Lyft drivers Future: autonomous cab. Repaired by gigtricians Then: Tabulating clerks Recently: Computers (people) Now: Computers. Repaired by smart family members or Geek Squad Then: Bookkeepers Recently: CPAs Now: QuickBooks Civilization advances. We UpSkill. Let's acknowledge that what we consider menial tasks (and perceive as traitor to a class) shifts drastically over time, and as human beings we'd really love to spend a majority of time enjoying life and the pursuit of happiness, not collecting water, lighting lamps, steering horses, balancing the books by hand, writing boilerplate code, etc. There's a ton of bad intent out there, but it's not all bad out there.

@Bradley_JF@mastodon.online @DemocracyMattersALot@mstdn.social except it isn't really just gas - we just think of that way. I just finished driving my last car into the ground - amortized cost in today's dollars: $8k/year just on the vehicle purchase (not maintenance, nor repair). Add maintenance, repair, gas, storage and I tell ya, I WANT to use public transit. If I wasn't carpooling my kids, I wouldn't have bought the new car. The Amtrak we rode had more people on it than I expected, and I was glad to see it.

@ProPublica@newsie.social we had such a problem with tow companies when I was in college. They towed a roommates car, even though it was parked in the correct spot, and refused to release it without many hundreds of dollars in towing fees and fines. We didn't have a photo of where the car was parked, but we had a photo of the nearby car that did a shit job of parking and had evidence the car was not in the spot the tow company claimed. They still wouldn't release the vehicle. Thankfully the campus police department was 5 blocks away and they went to town on the tow company, said they would treat it as a stolen vehicle and charge the tow company with possession of a stolen vehicle. This was over summer when the appt complex was more than half vacancy and there was no reason to even be towing vehicles from the lot.
