Agreed. The problem is that real countries with actual free speech don't have their own payment processors, but is also depending on visa, master card, and stripe. :-(

Even for people wanting a unix-like operating system free of charge in the mid-1990s, FreeBSD was an objectively better alternative. But a lot of really good programmers chose Linux for political reasons, and made it better.
I still run FreeBSD on my home server. I have considered switching because it would make things easier with docker and systemd, but by now I'm kind of happy I haven't.

The way I see it, Codeberg has decided to not participate in the crazy race for llms. Saying no to evil or stupidity isn't polarisation!
I agree (at least in pricinple) on more decentralised / federated forges, but I havn't had the time to try radicle (or any other system in that direction) seriously yet. And I haven't really seen any projects using them either. Is there any, besides radicle itself?

No, I'm saying that the direct LLM output is slop. It is entirely possible for people read that slop, be inspired by it and write code that is not slop. You may even call that "reviewing the output" (it it's a very thorough review).
I may not think that is a good idea, for numerous reasons, but it is possible for a human to use an LLM in some ways and still write code that is not slop.
Note that Codeberg did not ban all use of LLMs, they just restricted it.

Almost? What _is_ the definition os "slop"? There is no objective measurment of code quality, but I'd say "legacy code" is just code that no human cares about enough to understand. By that definition, llm-generated code is already legacy code when produced, and that's a good enough definition of "slop" for me.

I don't think there is an agreed-upon best practice.
Myself, I prefer to rename from something.rs to something/mod.rs when I and something/else.rs, I think it gets to crowded in the parent directory if there is both a something.rs and a something/ for each module.

Then I think you need to either let the internal foo be a Cow, or have a static A for the default.
Or you _could_ create a default A any time you need it and leak it, but that will break if you call the fn many times.

Anyone here have a recommendation for a music player on Android? The usual requirements apply; it should have good sound quality and a sane gui, be able to keep playing while I do something else on-screen and when the phone is in my pocket. My specific requirement is that it should play locally stored music files, which I put there by USB (umass mounting). Any recommendations?

Nå, det är en fråga om ett par dagar, på lite längre sikt lär dollarn fortsätta sjunka rejält, som den gjort sedan Trump tillträdde och börjde destabilisera USA:s ekonomi.

Yes, ... well, maybe? Not really as a wealth _signal_ , more they do something they like because the are rich enough to afford it and they are rich enough to have the time for it.
Before having a tan was something people tried to get, it was a side-effect of people beeing rich enough to spend days being lazy at the beach and "socially well-established" enough to not care about maintaing a pale complexion. Then people wanted to look like them, and _wanting_ a tan became a thing.

Some people may nog agree that "slop" is always bad. But saying that all llm-generated code is slop is consistent with any definition os "slop" I use.

I use Musicolet since a couple of days now. Seems to work fine for me, I mainly listen to bluegrass and folksy music (and some electro swing and other stuff) with distinct artist / album / title tagging, not a bunch of very long prefixes in the titles.
Maybe you could change that particular title to "Erbarme dich (BWV 244)" ? 🤠

The original doctype was a link (local fs if we go way back) to the actual document type definition file, so extremely specific even if not necessarily "versioned" by any meaningfull version number.

Well, the suntan analogy is there if you look for it! In 1900 mainly those who had had to do physical outdoors work had suntans, well-to-do people could either stay indoors or have free hands (or servants) to carry an umbrella, but later, a sun-tan came to bee an indication that you have free time you an spend being lazy outdoors.

To me it is pretty clear that Linux is wildly successful mainly because of a lot of open source developers who are there because they perceive it as some kind of "social warrior" project, AND (to a lesser degree) because of companies who believe in the "*NOT*".
Up to a few years ago, Linus was very good at keeping both those camps happy.

Går det särskilt mycket miljöfarligt gods på den järnvägen? Har den ett kolbrott i ena änden kankse?
Annars låter det kontraproduktivt att miljöaktivister skulle angripa en järnväg, de borde väl rikta in sig på flygplatser och kanske motorvägar. Men där kanske säkerheten är bättre?
Här har staden låtit ängen växa, men klippt kanten längs g/c-banan, så folk slipper fästingar och asfalten håller längre. Snyggt och rätt!

Yes, pretty much nothing happened for a very long time and that sucks. Now, in 2026, things are starting to happening.
It's still happening slowly, but now it is before it's complex and lots of things have to happen in the right order, not because it's ignored.
