mastodon 4.7.3#introduction ...
To get the best from Mastodon, I try to follow and boost the people who post using the hashtags I like. I wish there were more journalists here, especially from UK.

@dbattistella@mstdn.ca Good grief. I loath what Google stands for, and try to avoid it. So I use Firefox and Ecosia, and Libreoffice in my attempts to do this. But this thread tells me both substitutes are also terrible. I'm not tech savvy enough to keep up, so will have to tell myself any system not Google based is at least the best worst option.

@sarahdalgulls@ecoevo.social Me too. Also, people hate it when I mention it. I choose my moments, but it's frustrating not being allowed to shout the message louder, because people find it uncomfortable! Also, don't forget the hashtag #FlightFree. Unfortunately it doesn't get much traction, but I try!

@kim_harding@mastodon.scot I've just listened to Any Answers on BBC radio 4. Topic was climate change in light of current heatwave, and to my surprise the responses were overwhelmingly pro-climate action. People felt frustrated that politicians hadn't acted years ago, and still weren't acting now. Responders had good knowledge of the facts, and some good suggestions. Politicians should take heart and be brave, voters do care about climate change.

@mhoye Thanks for this! I was having a moment of existential angst as I read news of upcoming G7 meeting. You've renewed my hope in, and respect for, the scientists and engineers who work to protect our planet.

@heidilifeldman@mastodon.social Fascinating read. I wish I understood the issues better, but it's a relief to see the rule of law being taken seriously in at least some of the US courts.

Strong stuff, from Led by Donkeys ... They're trying to get tech companies to take more responsibility over preventing hate speech. I don't think LbD are on Mastodon, but obviously they should be.

@rhys@mastodon.rhys.wtf Starmer still gets my vote. I see his supposed weakness as just a refusal to bluster, or to get deflected from his aim of improving things for the less well-off. I think we're lucky he's prepared to take the opprobrium from the over privileged chattering classes while he works at this - all while being respected abroad, keeping the country stable, and avoiding unnecessary wars.

@atrupar I don't know your purpose, but hashtags rule here, and you get seen, and find followers, if you write an #introduction and add your interests to it, with their hashtags. If you're a US journalist, perhaps #journalism #uspolitics

Music to my ears. Vote Labour to get serious action on climate. Green policy is what matters, not tribal allegiance, and Labour politicians currently are in a better position to deliver it than Greens.

@JohanEmpa@mastodon.green Why? Do you not want to be part of the fediverse? Am I missing something obvious? I thought the point was to be an independent unit, but also to belong to something bigger than the sum of its parts.

@markus_quandt@mastodon.green @hastingsmothman@mastodon.green @JohanEmpa@mastodon.green When you say 'our server' do you mean 'our instance', which is mastodon.green? If so I finally get it. Each instance can choose to block (you say defederate) any other instance its host doesn't think is run properly?

@ShredderLivesOn@mastodon.scot Thanks for this useful capture of the basics. I think it's a shame people don't seem to appreciate Starmer's strengths, and I think we should all be careful of what we wish for, but I'll be focusing on improving Green agenda, whoever does best out of this mayhem.
