The even decline of my electricity use since I got solar panels in December is very pleasing. Thinking about a battery now - my biggest energy use is heating the hot water every morning

RE: @sarahdalgulls@ecoevo.social
I sometimes find myself asking "is this sort of thing still necessary?"
I found out recently that my colleague giving a talk to a local primary school was told that while the boys will have been to the local beach, no-one let their daughters even play outside the house.
My friend's teenage daughter wanted to walk along the coastal path with their friends. The other parents were furious, because they might get lost or murdered or worse.
So at work, for grant applications and documents and reports, I often have to write something like "a 25 year vision for the reserve" or "what will be the increase in population for this species in 10 years time if we fund your habitat improvement?"
And I'm like.. honestly, in 10 years time, I'll just be happy if there's any birds still alive
Help, my mentions are just people telling me about what backpack they like, I don't even want a new backpack

in response to this post everyone is recommending Tom Binh, an American brand you can't get in the UK.
I did about 10 mins searching and then had a read of the /r/TomBinh subreddit:
They were bought out by a private equity company a few years ago

They've recently switched manufacturing to Vietnam

There's also plenty posts complaining about declines in quality of customer service. So... Proceeding as expected
The Farne Island puffin cam goes live today, which is annoying because it'll go viral, while we've had puffin cameras for years and no-one pays them any attention. Our hostingfor some reason restarts the feed every 12 hours, so you can't really link to our cameras - by the end of the day, the link won't work, it'll just be a recording. It drives me mad!! I'm hoping to change it next year.
Anyway, here's the Farnes https://www.youtube.com/live/zt3MCinVr5Q?si=-5uKRgDFfUn1ewXL
Here's ours, at least until 8pm

I know "carbon footprint" was invented to shift blame from producers to individuals, but it sure might help people understand if there was a neat "every Copilot prompt you type uses X tonnes of carbon" value

I really like the North East Heritage Library, with listings of sports ground, mines and shipbuilding; regularly published articles; a book club (on the patreon); guided walks in the summer, and now a routemapper: plan a route across town and it'll highlight historic points of interest you'll pass by
@Pepijn@mastodon.online everyone's recommending Tom Binh, which I've never even heard of before
