Has anyone out there made their own heated clothing? Either using purchased nichrome wire or harvesting it out of hair dryers? I found an Instructable but it would be nice to talk to someone who'd actually done it. I do community electronics recycling and have access to a lot of old hair dryers and laptop batteries. It would be cool to be able to turn them into heated winter gear. #solarpunkSunday #solarpunk #makers #diy #sewing

Just read a toot regarding the web back in the 1990's, when it was static and you could happily write markdown in a text editor. I still have my books on DHTML, HTML 5, CSS 3 etc. This has given me an idea (not that I need anymore of those right now), I'm looking to move out of finance into writing or creating physical items, which is going to be a slow and hard process, might not even work. But I like the idea of building myself a static website to complement this and maybe as a platform to sell. It would mean I would still be using my technical skills. Did a quick search and am seeing things like Ecwid can be used as a plugin, but have no idea if this would be trying to do too much myself as I haven't even got close to e-commerce before. I don't want to go anywhere near Etsy, Shopify, Wix or the like. Whatever I do I need to balance this with my mental health but this has provided a spark I have been missing for quite a few years so would like to dig further into this if I can. Just looking for a more sustainable way forward for the next how many years on our shared planet and that is better for my mind. #AskFedi #StaticWeb #webdev #SmallWeb #Makers

Looking for open source hardware licensed furniture that is: meant for a workshop (work benches, cabinets)can be cut by hand from plans rather than being a CNC-focused designideally modular and/or parametric so I can adjust on some CAD tool for what I need in my space Let me know what’s out there! #makers #oshw #workshop #makerspaces

Time to clean up my workbench.

There will be three piles.

  • Tools
  • Spare parts
  • Incompleted projects
  • Projects not started
  • I have no idea of what that is

Two of the piles will go into the shed (that's my "too good to throw out system, until the next time I purge the shed at least")

#BirthTourism to the United States is a fucking lie. EVEN TO NEW YORK. we had 8 years of a Republican governor that helped gut hospitals all across the state and 12 years of fucking Bloomberg in #nyc who didn't know a hospital or clinic he didn’t want to close down. y’all have no idea of how huge is the hidden poverty of upstate #NY, thanks to neoliberal capitalists dismantling our #makers economy to turn us into #consumers ―and yet we ain't as bad as Texas. source: https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/maternal-mortality-rate-by-state

Hallo Fediverse! 🔧 #livelooping #Introduction #makersgonnaMake

From A.W.A.D. at wordsmith.org A THOUGHT FOR TODAY: Creativity -- like human life itself -- begins in darkness. We need to acknowledge this. All too often, we think only in terms of light: "And then the lightbulb went on and I got it!" It is true that insights may come to us as flashes. It is true that some of these flashes may be blinding. It is, however, also true that such bright ideas are preceded by a gestation period that is interior, murky, and completely necessary. -Julia Cameron, artist, author, teacher, filmmaker, composer, and journalist (b. 4 Mar 1948) #makers #creative #creativity
