If you should happen to possess an LG G6 OLED TV and would like to disable the spying microphones and actively hostile WiFi/BT module, then the details are below.
Perhaps this type of modification would make for a great service to offer, if you have the skills to do so? 🙂🖖

We have an LG TV 60UH770V (built in 2016). Thank god, it has no microphone. It runs “webOS 3.4.2-570910 (dreadlocks-digya)”.
There is no physical network connection. And no LAN and WLAN credentials have ever been set up. It should in theory never have been able to reach the #Internet.
It’s frightening to see what internet connected home devices can do.

216,000,000 Spy TVs | The LG Smart TV Problem
It’s wild that Windows 11 REMOVED THE ABILITY TO DECLINE UPDATES. That is now pro or enterprise tier only. #microsoft also deprecated/abandoned the add-in tool (wushowhide) to block ones you don’t want. And I found all this out because windows update would not let me opt out of putting #lg spyware on my computer.
Congrats, MS and LG, you finally motivated me to put #linuxmint on my main gaming rig. I mean, I was going to have to when age verification kicked in anyway but I’ll be damned if companies I bought shit from get the right to screenshot and enhance my marketing profile with everything I display on their monitors.
Though, tbf, there’s part of me that wants to set up some LG monitors and Roku boxes that look like they are in the Rayburn building (where US House reps have offices) and just make them look like everyone in that building is watching the most vile porn imaginable constantly. So they can start getting all those useful and beneficial tailored ads.
An #LG Wireless module.
It is easy to remove, and the TV works fine without it.
Smart TV von #LG? Immer lauschend.

This is the big LG television surveillance documentary story GN have been working on for a couple of months, and that they previewed a few days ago.
The complete pervasiveness of spying upon not just you and what you watch but _every person and every device around every set_ is genuinely staggering. And it gets worse if you use their apps, particularly the LG TV "network":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6IFVTcM28KA
Having an old set DOES NOT HELP YOU; they've been adding these spying functions in firmware updates.
So DO NOT BUY ANYTHING LG. Certainly not anything "smart."

The LG TV network scanning story breaking today includes UDP 9999 Kasa discovery broadcasts every 25 seconds. That's the exact port I documented in CVE-2026-13230 as returning unauthenticated precise GPS coordinates from Kasa cameras with no authentication. Any LG TV + unpatched Kasa camera on the same network = GPS harvesting every 25 seconds. @briankrebs@infosec.exchange Advisory: https://github.com/BadChemical/IoT-Vulnerability-Research-Public/blob/main/TP-Link_Kasa_EC71/Kasa_EC71.md

LG monitors will no longer feature external ads in Windows
The unsolicited advertising engine from LG monitors will be somewhat restricted after user protests. LG is apparently reacting to pressure from Microsoft.

To continue using your refrigerator and its warranty, you must connect it to the internet.
This software update has several important changes to your terms of service and privacy policy. This update is 9.5GB and you are responsible for bandwidth usages.
You must agree to our new AI, privacy policy of the included sensors, and increased power consumption as your refrigerator has several GPUs.

"Spur argues the problem is not that residential proxy networks exist, but rather that they are being embedded at scale in devices that most consumers do not think of as computers and are not equipped to audit.
“A one-time consent prompt buried in a TV app is not a substitute for meaningful transparency, ongoing control, and platform oversight,” Spur’s Trevor Sutter wrote. “The risk is amplified when consent comes from individuals within the household who use the device but shouldn’t give consent, such as minors.”
LG’s announcement that it is culling residential proxy SDKs from its app store is welcome news, but the company recently came under fire for another questionable partnership: Pimping McAfee security products via software drivers included in its high-end LCD monitors.
Earlier this week, the Youtube channel Gamers Nexus showed that certain LG LCD monitors will automatically install an app that promotes paid McAfee antivirus subscriptions, and that the app arrives through Windows Update without an approval prompt."

Researchers found residential proxy SDKs in 2,058 LG webOS and Samsung Tizen smart TV apps, allowing many devices to share internet connections through proxy networks. 📺
The findings raise privacy and security concerns, as internet-connected TVs can run background activity for years with little user visibility or control. 🔒

New, exclusive, by me: LG to Ban Residential Proxy Providers from Smart TV Apps
The home appliance giant LG Electronics USA said this week it plans to suspend any apps built for its smart TVs that turn one’s television into an always-on residential proxy node. The move comes less than a month after researchers found that more than 42 percent of games and other apps available for download on LG’s webOS store allow unknown third-parties to route their Internet traffic through a user’s TV.
