It’s wild that Windows 11 REMOVED THE ABILITY TO DECLINE UPDATES. That is now pro or enterprise tier only. #microsoft also deprecated/abandoned the add-in tool (wushowhide) to block ones you don’t want. And I found all this out because windows update would not let me opt out of putting #lg spyware on my computer.
Congrats, MS and LG, you finally motivated me to put #linuxmint on my main gaming rig. I mean, I was going to have to when age verification kicked in anyway but I’ll be damned if companies I bought shit from get the right to screenshot and enhance my marketing profile with everything I display on their monitors.
Though, tbf, there’s part of me that wants to set up some LG monitors and Roku boxes that look like they are in the Rayburn building (where US House reps have offices) and just make them look like everyone in that building is watching the most vile porn imaginable constantly. So they can start getting all those useful and beneficial tailored ads.

@briankrebs@infosec.exchange it’s also a massive accountability sink, if you follow cybernetics at all.
A study out of the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance illustrates the exact land mine that will soon trigger — look at how big the gaps are between where companies and regulators think primarily accountability rests. Someone is going to become as synonymous with model governance failures as Enron became for accounting and audit malfeasance.
As near as I can tell in GRC, nobody, including the AI firms, are following the best practices for model risk management and risk or when they are, it’s just enough to be not the absolute worst. And I do not expect any of this to change until there’s an Enron-sized disaster.

Also, I mean, are we done with Forbes as a measure of anything other than willingness to pay product placement fees anymore? He wrote an editorial this year for his magazine stating that renewable energy is a fraud and lie because they don’t warn you about maintenance.
Unlike, idunno, oil pipelines. Zero maintenance costs there.

@lydialurch You didn't know? Brett Ratner, the director, is in the #Epsteinfiles. This movie is his attempt at redemption after a whole bunch of #metoo allegations made him scurry off to hide in Israel the past several years.

I’m frequently asked how I can be so calm when I’m running a crisis bridge. The real answer is that the most stressful day at work for most Americans pales in comparison to life as a minority in America.
You think managing an AWS outage and telling people they aren’t a priority is a difficult conversation? I got to talk to my father about why he supports a candidate who believes I shouldnt have the right to rent a house if it means he will have lower taxes.

@QasimRashid@mastodon.social I'm trying to say nice things about her because of how glad I am she's leaving. So I'll stick with "if only other house reps did 1-2 terms then left instead of going pro at it until they reach a point they have zero connection to their districts or clue what is happening in society."

@jwgoerlich Are they destroyed if if they never developed?
I recently watched an NYU student on a flight fail at doing math with her fingers, pull up ChatGPT on her phone, and type in "MATH PROBLEM WHAT IS 29-13"

The end of the lifetime guarantee from T-Mobile. Nice of the FCC to let them just cancel that and pay people i think it was $2 or $3 for lying and violating contracts.
Does anyone have any idea what a “modern” cell phone plan is or “enhanced features” ? I’m assuming it means they also dropped the promise to never do traffic shaping. I’ll just guess sports premium packages or poly market credits. And of course probably now actively mess with VPNs.
Any other guesses what ‘modern’ and ‘enhanced features’ mean to a cell phone company as the entire industry grapples with the collapse of new cell phone purchases due to AI-fueled chip shortages?

I don’t think I’ve ever had to bite my tongue more in my career than with the #ai race.
Paying money to companies who bill based on usage and constantly, silently update weights that change consumption. Who have a negative incentive to optimize code or consider efficiency.
If my grandparents who lived through the literal snake oil salesmen and Great Depression were still alive they would immediately spot the fundamental flaw in this structure. And that is without even considering that every company with user data does when they are missing targets: treats trust as an asset they can liquidate.

Holy shit, SOC2 round one just wrapped with only five additional requests for data. And what you should be most impressed about is that I will still find ways to be full of doubt.
And we should be! Doubt is great….for our programs. We should have nagging thoughts as long as they are informed by risk or intuition. Self-doubt though? Dont waste time on that. If you’re feeling it, go give a talk to a security club. When you can answer the questions after, it puts those voices to bed for a few months.

So far one of the most interesting cultural behavior unique to DC that I’ve observed this month:
When doing initial screening prior to agreeing to a date, guys ask where you were on January 6th.
Feels anticlimactic when I counter with “When’s the last time you ate Taco Bell?”

I think we need to stop and appreciate that Donald Trump has finally found a model he respects.

@wendynather@infosec.exchange it’s also like making a PR and attention play out of an unreleased product having woefully inadequate controls in place and catastrophic failures in your risk management program.
That or Sarah Friar (CFO) was right when she suggested they weren’t anywhere close to ready to have an IPO.

@davidcelis@xoxo.zone isn’t being on the 30 Under 30 list still one of the strongest predictors of future investor fraud? Unusual to see someone boasting about that as a measure of credibility.
