I submitted a Pull Request to update MacPorts' OpenSSH to 10.6p1 here: https://github.com/macports/macports-ports/pull/35346 GitHub Continuous Integration checks passed OK. It's up to someone else with commit access to merge it. (I am less certain what to do about the sandboxing support removal mentioned by @brynet@bsd.network believe it or not, I kinda despise Apple and macOS; yet I figure down streaming things for others since I am doing it myself is hopefully beneficial? If I am going to have to get more into the internals of a proprietary for-profit OS from a company that has trillions [plural] in its market cap? I kinda feel as if they may actually be able to afford to employ folks to do this stuff and I am less certain I want to be among them? Particularly given that supposedly in recent years, Apple has become subsumed to some degree by Unit 8200 [e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vc-iH5GEPJ8&t=480s] like the politics and optics of all that are, awful [Unit 8200 are Israeli spies, essentially]; and probably also a big part of why the new Apple Watch is Big Brother "always listening" as just one example of how the company professing to be privacy focused, in practice: is more like 1984's double-speak in 2026. If you can, I would sincerely encourage you to use OpenSSH on OpenBSD!) #OpenSSH #MacPorts #SecureShell #macOS #Encryption #OpenSource

Their main concerns:

  • Up to 6 months of mandatory metadata retention, creating hacker "honeypots" that clash with privacy-first design. -It could force weakened #encryption or interception tools! -"Core provider" is undefined, and secret ministerial orders could hit non-core firms too.

They say these measures would weaken consumer trust, chill investment, and go well beyond the lawful access frameworks of Canada's G7 peers. Their ask: amend #BillC22 before it becomes law to protect #privacy, #encryption and #cybersecurity, and give companies the certainty to invest and grow in 🇨🇦

In case you are falsely feeling protected outside of Europe: Chat Control doesn't just concern Europeans. It concerns all of us. These kind of regulations will come for all of us, everywhere, if we do not ALL push against it everywhere. If you do not understand how this is all intertwined, I invite you to read more privacy news and in-depth analysis. Because we must all support each other's privacy fights.

🔐 LUKSbox v0.5.1 is out, and I am pretty happy with this one. 🎉 🪟 TPM 2.0 hardware keyslots now work on Windows through TBS. No driver, no admin rights. Hardware-backed unlock is finally complete across desktop: 🐧 Linux → TPM 2.0 🍎 macOS → Secure Enclave 🪟 Windows → TPM 2.0 🔒 The key stays sealed inside the chip. Copy the vault without it and it is just noise. 🌫️ Apache 2.0, open source. 👉 https://github.com/PentHertz/LUKSbox #encryption #TPM #opensource #infosec #privacy #linux #windows #macos

@dbattistella@mstdn.ca My husband and I use tuta (@Tutanota@mastodon.social) for sending encrypted email. The account also includes a calendar. I started with a free account just to test it out and then moved to the paid tier to get some more features. No affiliation with the company, just a customer. #Email #Privacy #Encryption
