I submitted a Pull Request to update MacPorts' OpenSSH to 10.6p1 here:
https://github.com/macports/macports-ports/pull/35346
GitHub Continuous Integration checks passed OK. It's up to someone else with commit access to merge it.
(I am less certain what to do about the sandboxing support removal mentioned by @brynet@bsd.network believe it or not, I kinda despise Apple and macOS; yet I figure down streaming things for others since I am doing it myself is hopefully beneficial? If I am going to have to get more into the internals of a proprietary for-profit OS from a company that has trillions [plural] in its market cap? I kinda feel as if they may actually be able to afford to employ folks to do this stuff and I am less certain I want to be among them? Particularly given that supposedly in recent years, Apple has become subsumed to some degree by Unit 8200 [e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vc-iH5GEPJ8&t=480s] like the politics and optics of all that are, awful [Unit 8200 are Israeli spies, essentially]; and probably also a big part of why the new Apple Watch is Big Brother "always listening" as just one example of how the company professing to be privacy focused, in practice: is more like 1984's double-speak in 2026. If you can, I would sincerely encourage you to use OpenSSH on OpenBSD!)

Good questions, but that's as far as I got with the version control history. I'm presuming that there are some public discussions somewhere.
@daztucker@infosec.exchange is the person who made that commit marking the 'hack', so let's see whether xe is around. (-:
#OpenSSH
I'm glad I switched #HardenedBSD away from #GnuPG to #OpenSSH based (detached) signatures.
Not saying there's zero bugs in OpenSSH, but it seems to me (with zero factual research) OpenSSH has a better overall security posture than the alternatives.
#infosec #gpg
I don't know what's more stupid: #OpenSSH using different authentication flow depending on whether you have a .pub file in addition to the private key or not, or #GitHub suddenly starting to reject one of the two valid RFC 4252 workflows.
openssh-server post-installation script error (exit status 10) and SSH not working #apt #dpkg #openssh
