Hive Mind Associative Memory Query: Within the past few days, there was a post that showed up in my stream with an un-captioned image of text about a 19th Century botanist lamenting that where others see development, botanists see destruction. It's been haunting me since. I want to 1) Verify the excerpt, 2) Find the source 3) Attribute. Look, if we can suspend disbelief enough to accept a "universal translator" that perfectly interprets between 20th-21st century American English and some never-heard-before "alien" language, we can assume that interpretation includes temporal/historical/evolutionary linguistic changes. (As evidenced in every single episode hitting the "Time Travel" BINGO square.)

I remember well the (Robert Tappan) Morris Worm, 1988-11-02.
