Trev
mastodon 4.7.3Father, husband, Linux nerd, web developer, gamer, drummer and music lover.
My laptop is almost 11 years old now. Since I received it, I've replaced the keyboard, the memory, the power supply and the battery.
I've still spent less on it than I have "smart phones".
I started calling myself "trevdev" before Covid, before the AI bubble, 11 years ago when there was only one other competing trevdev. That person decided not to contract anymore and even let me take their domain name.
Not that it makes a difference, though. If I search up "trevdev," I'm at least near the top of a bunch of Treveloper Developers.
Today after 11 years in the biz I learned that single quotes are a valid email username character. They were explicitly defined as so in 2001 with RFC 2822 and yet it surprised me.
You know who else it surprises? #Microsoft with their shitty OData API
I wonder if the Onion has ever just run a true article on US politics to prove a point: they don't need to come up with anything anymore. Maybe that's a bad idea though. Might discredit the truth a bit
Please don't harass people about this but saying "I didn't submit age verification for Linux, I only added a field for it in systemd" sounds a bit like "I didn't build the gas chambers for undesirable people, I just added the lables for the controls."
Yes, I'm being a little hyperbolic. However, the death of privacy and the criminalization of anyone who doesn't comply doesn't happen overnight. It takes little bits of help from many law abiding citizens.
I finally moved my CV off of #linkedin and put it onto my website :)
It even has the only feature from LinkedIn that I cared about: Telling people how long I've done anything. I just sprinkled a little moment.js into my scripts to make it more fun.
I'm very happy to have deleted the last "popular" social media thing I had left. LinkedIn is a garbage website.
Love Amy Lee, love the message. Walking around with ghosts on screens is relatable these days. You never see the zombies until you stop being one.
I've gone from hating workouts to wondering how far I can go. This is a good sign. Six weeks ago I couldn't even do ten pushups in a row. Now three sets of ten feel too easy
@ChrisWere@toot.wales there's no accounting for people's taste in movies, but there's REALLY no accounting for Drew's

"On with the bongs the bangiebang diggy diggy diggy chuck a boogie and up chuck a boogie"
Pentagon:
@ThunderComplex@fosstodon.org funny thing was I forgot the name of that song and nearly admitted it. What is mainstream anyway? Normal people don't spend this much time on the Internet ;)
This is going really well. I've survived a week without a smart device on and in my pocket all week.
Yesterday I had to go help a client. I looked up their address and wrote directions down on paper. I found them pretty easily. My wife is happy to be on the receiving end of "why are you on your phone all the time???" for once.
I've replaced the charger for my digital camera and am loading a cheap MP3 player up with music. The cost of what I really want is $200, phone included.
If you take free things from the curb of somebody's home and for whatever reason you don't want them 3 days later, do you think it's OK to return them to the curb that you found them on?
RE: @mediaarchaeologylab@post.lurk.org
The more time I spend on tech & the internet the more I'm willing to get away from it.
