@iFixit@mastodon.social What is awesome about Lenovo Thinkpads is that good repairability is nothing new. They have ambition for doing things right, inherited from IBM, while others spend time shaving dimes off of the dollar - creating a microscopic blimp in the profit in favor of unrepairable trash for the customers. (Toshiba, Acer, I'm looking at you!)

@pglpm@lemmy.ca You really need a smaller shovel for that hole you're digging for yourself.

You were called out for being rude by being blocked - and you get called out again when you blog about being called out for being rude, so now you've been called out twice - and for the third time by a large language model.

You hole is almost ready. Whether you fill it up or jump in depends on whether you can man up to face your own attitude.

I'm done, got better things to do with my time and my life.

Adieu.

@pglpm@lemmy.ca Your perception of your open letter is "polite".

The boiled down version is "if you do this, then fuck you." Literally.

There is no such thing as a polite ultimatum.

Sorry, but YTA.

@zbrown@floss.social @itsOasus@pawb.fun I'm simply suggesting that the UK implements a nation-wide ID system. The nordic countries (Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland) have done so without complications. In these countries identity theft is almost unheard of (and very very difficult). Unlike the UK where identity theft is possible simply by calling the bank and provide a plausible story. So... dear friends in GB - buckle up and get yourselves an ID system that works.

@JenMsft@mastodon.social Just wow. I'm thankful for the abundance of women at my company ( I think it's close to 50% ) - and damn smart, each and every one. Some are equals (or >=), some of them my bosses (several). I think we'd falter and halt without them. Cheers to all of them - and cheers to this dude for reminding me that for every one toxic copy of him in existence, I'll appreciate the women so much more - with them around, my job is easier & more fun - and he's not going to fill their space. Win-win.

Only difference is, your line lies a tad further back. Do I have hardware this old? Yes. Yes I do. WOULD I have upgraded it to Leap 16? No, not this specific hardware. Do I know of OTHER hardware that might have been upgraded and which is older than 2008? Oh yes, I do. Lots of equipment wired to legacy machinery. *SIGH*

Það er alveg deginum ljósara að Ofar (Origo), Advania, OK, Computer2000 - allir þessir aðilar sem gefa sig út fyrir að vera selja lausnir fyrir fyrirtæki - eru ALLIR með allt niðrum sig.

ENGINN þeirra selur Enterprise SSD diska - og ENGINN þeirra selur harða diska, eða SSD diska með SAS tengi.

Allir með tölu í M.2 og SATA.

Það þýðir að þeir eru ekki að selja fyrirtækjum server lausnir - aðeins skrifstofubúnað.

Það er sorglegur andskoti.

The Tecra with its Magnesium shell was more... enterprisey - on the outside (same crap on the inside though). The Satellites were "budget" systems (if you can call a $3K "budget") with good parts put together in a piss-poor way. I had a Tecra M4 which I was very happy with until it proved me wrong - and a Satellite P50-t which I disliked from day 1 and until its untimely death. Wife also had one. 👎🏻

This is an un-enforcable thing (no age verification) so there should be no harvesting at all - or no AI at all. There is no try. Do or do not.

@univention@univention.social - here's a nugget that will improve your life: NOBODY writes dates as "month-day-year" except the disabled ones in the west.

Absolutely not Icelanders, after selecting "Icelandic" for language, locale and keyboard!

Would not recommend any of the non-Thinkpads even to an enemy of mine. But that's where Toshiba and Lenovo differ - I CAN recommend the Thinkpad, but wouldn't recommend a Tecra.

I have a P53s, T15g1, a couple of Thinkpad Yogas (pre-forking of the Yoga brand) and a really old m-class CPU (next step after C2D). All of them have turned out to be 💯in terms of servicability. Even the oldest one which had a effed DSP. I could mute the DSP with a stick in the 3.5mm jack and just use a USB audio card instead.

@lxo That is your prerogative. You cannot however extend that view to everyone else. Consumers have the right to be disinformed, ignorant dweebs - and manufacturers do have the right to be corner-cutting bat-dung. It is bad, yes, when these proxy their problems to unsuspecting individuals - but that is permissable to regulate. And I'm old enough to remember Y2K too - and it wasn't that much of a problem in gov/geo nor in uni.

I asked Gemini if there existed a plugin or syntax highlight for Bind. It took five attempts to convince Gemini that it was wrong, there was no such syntax highlighter - and to the point where it offered to create for me the syntax XML file - which it then promptly did and now it just works.

But it's exceptionally dumb that one has to waste so much time on some artificial LSD trip before getting something concrete.

@itsOasus@pawb.fun They are going to have loads of fun when they realise that the landscape for age verification (other than literally a ID number) changes so rapidly that it is useless. 1) My son has an account since he was 0yo 2) You could have used your mom's CC ? 3) The age limit in Iceland recently changed to 9yo and will continue to lower 4) You could use someone else's CC or a pre-paid CC readily available online. 🤷‍♂️ Learn to ID-number. It works. Just sayin'

@dazo@infosec.exchange @iFixit@mastodon.social in contrast, my Toshiba laptops have been atrocious - especially the high-end one (a laptop that cost me $3k, had 4K display with touch, big HDD, dedicated ATI graphics etc) - insides look like someone randomly picked parts from AliExpress and hotglued them together. Quality is on par with the cheapest you can find in Temu. Even Apple does not come remotely close to the servicability of Thinkpads. (I was Apple tech from 2007-08, can attest for lack of quality and servicability!)
