@jni@fosstodon.org @Tutanota@mastodon.social this vote was pushed through as "urgent procedure" by the EU Council, the EPP and the Parliament president (which is part of EPP) on Tuesday, and since the request for this second reading passed an absolute majority was needed to stop it today
the last time we voted for chat control it was rejected 311:228 so it was almost the same this time (314:276), it only wasn't enough because it was framed as "urgent" to enable the second reading and require the absolute majority
democracy at its finest /s
i don't use twitter and can't see replies but i hope that post is getting annihilated with backlash 
like every single supporter of chat control they try to frame it in a nice way like in this case "discussing europe's efforts to protect children" 
if this ever goes further into dystopia i think the future is self hosting, federation and decentralization. for example, matrix using E2EE is immune to chat control by design because you can host your own server, the same way mastodon is immune to age verification since you can just host it yourself 
it'd take a lot more effort from authoritarian regimes to censor those, and FLOSS in general, out of existence
for music i gave up, i extract what i want with yt-dlp and keep it locally, it's objectively a better experience for me since i'm not dealing with crappy streaming quality and, again, the client breaking and leaving me with no music at all 
it's sad, the unethical ai industry needs to collapse so they get a reality check
