So dear European banks, who you force your customers to use apps from Apple/Google stores or-else, and didn't want to listen ever: what are you going to do now?
- binding your customers to US stores: illegal
- using those analytic frameworks: illegal
- using Apple/Google cloud messaging: illegal
- your apps: illegal?
- most of your branches: closed ("go online!").
- banking: how?
The shield got broken. Happy sovereignty!
Yesterday the US Supreme Court ruled that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is not independent anymore. In fact no US agency is independent anymore. This is huge.
The FTC being independent is the entire basis for (and the only reason) why Europeans are allowed to send personal data from the EU to the USA.
Without this basis, Europeans aren't allowed to send any personal data from the EU to the USA. To give the maybe most concrete example, Europeans will be forbidden to use Google Analytics once this comes into effect.
Did Trump's cronies basically self-destruct US tech dominance over Europe? In their race to authoritarianism, they declared every US law unconstitutional that allows any US agency any independence from Trump. But without independence from Trump, the EU treaty collapses that allows Europeans to send personal data to the USA.
This means, as Europeans, you aren't allowed to use Google Analytics anymore. No more Google Firebase, no more Braze, no more Sentry. NO MORE PALANTIR.
noyb has sent a formal letter to the European Commission today, asking the Commission to take the appropriate steps to repeal the EU-US data deal in an orderly way. noyb will also file a lawsuit in the coming weeks, aiming to allow the CJEU to annul the current deal. However, such a lawsuit typically takes 2-3 years until a final decision is reached.
If your employer uses Google Analytics, they better start migrating to a self-hosted solution like Matomo or Plausible. Or they will face hefty fines.
Do I understand this correctly? This would be the biggest self-own and favor the USA could have done us. This seems too good to become reality?!

* Monocons: Monochrome brand icons for Android launchers 🛡️
Yesterdays update for LibreFind had to be rolled back, as it included a self-updater (bypassing our scans), without asking for your consent to it (and without bad intent, of course). The next release will have this properly addressed.

Oh, and if your favourite app had its #ReproducibleBuilds fail, you can now hover your mouse over the yellow shield to find a hint on why it failed. It's usually just minor shenanigans, like an embedded build id…
This month's #Quality Check reports have been processed now:
- 26 apps with added Translation services
- 4 apps got their ArchivePolicy changed (2 were to big, 2 got smaller)
- 5 apps received additional Fastlane elements
- 4 apps changed their repo status (2 archived, 2 unarchived)
- 6 apps had misc. URL changes
- 1 app was removed (repo archived, APK too big, non-free libs inside)

@gim@lou.lt except for the first one (the unmodified unsigned APK), none of them would work in any way, or even install. But that's the thing there, it's just pattern matching, not app testing. If they're so sure it's an app that should be on Play, they could e.g. at least run apksigner verify – which would have failed all of them, though the unmodified differently.
And none of those files would have installed, as that requires a signed APK 🤷♂️
