@adhdeanasl @ohmu then it's useful, perhaps, to point out that Paul was born Saul, Sarah was born Sarai, and calling people by chosen names is something that even shows up in the Bible. There's no real excuse for not calling someone what they ask you to call them, except that people are human and occasionally screw up in various ways (and they should apologize when that happens). But doing it intentionally is not ok.

@jonny do LLMs trained on gpl code have to be gpl? I don't know whether code-as-data is equivalent to code as executable, but I had honestly never considered that issue before.

@jschwa1 @dave @SteveRudolfi good luck proving that's what happened, too. Without saving the webpage or archiving it or something, it's going to be hard to show that the user didn't just read things wrong. Gaslighting at its finest.

@kristinHenry@vis.social My husband started wars between different ant species in the backyard all through his childhood. When he went to college, his mom suddenly had an ant problem and had no idea what had changed. 😂

@mekkaokereke@hachyderm.io similarly, ice agent body cam footage can be used against all people in the airport, and by overseeing the scan process they can get biometrics along with names, identifiers, etc. to compile their own database that isn't subject to the "we will delete your biometrics" guarantee.

@BobLefridge @sundogplanets Ugh. Long exposure photos are my favorite. It figures Musk and the other technobros would ruin that along with my job (prof, I hate grading AI slop) and the environment too.

@me_valentijn @mattblaze the majority of people in the justice department may not have been asked to do something illegal or immoral yet. I can imagine most priorities continue and it would be possible to keep doing the job, concluding that if you resign they'll replace you with someone who is incompetent and partisan. But at some point if you're asked to follow an illegal order, your choices are basically comply or resign and they chose resign. Whatever their personal line is, we agree here.

@IanHill@infosec.exchange WTF. I'm sure they're going to test those algorithms on disabled people, people with chronic illnesses, and new parents. I'm sure that a tired mom will still be able to drive her sick infant to the ER and won't be stranded and have to rely on slow and expensive ambulance service, too. No way this could go wrong. No way someone will have to pay $30/month to enable this service so they can use their car.

@dragonfi@social.jsteuernagel.de @davidgrieve@mastodon.world @mattblaze@federate.social you follow the order or you resign. They resigned. That is how the process has worked historically - the Friday night massacre may be the most famous incident but there were a few similar situations in Trump's first term.

Does anyone using #quarto know of a good package or pandoc filter that will generate WCAG2.1 compliant tables? I'm trying to get my class sites to pass muster for #accessibility, but nothing seems to make use of the required "scope" attribute. I've tried #rstats packages DT, gt, knitr, as well as various types of markdown tables.
