#3GoodThings @3goodthings@fedigroups.social Three good things this day.

  1. Being able to listen to recordings of symphonies while sitting at my computer.
  2. Beautiful sunshine today.
  3. Perl.

#3GoodThings @3goodthings@fedigroups.social Three good things this day.

  1. I just got word that a fanfic that someone was writing for me is finished, and they will post it tomorrow. Whee!
  2. Posting pieces to my P-o-D shop, https://fluid-visions.com ALL the prints are there! (Expect to hear more about my art in future, folks.)
  3. All the interesting stitch-patterns that folks have devised for knitting and crochet. MAGIC STICKS!

"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things." - Philippians 4:8

#3GoodThings @3goodthings@fedigroups.social Three good things this day.

  1. I had a most delicious dish of scrambled eggs with dill-infused goat's cheese. Light, fluffy, creamy. I doubt I will ever be able to reproduce it, but it existed, and I was able to eat it. That is good.
  2. I managed to put the rubbish bins out while it was still daylight. (Yes, I consider that an accomplishment).
  3. Electric kettles. (Bright, but not copper -- "Bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens." 🎶 )

I am sniggering at what Coles have put into their "Health & Dietary" category. It looks like it is completely random, because they certainly have a lot of things there which could not be classified as either healthy or dietary (or allergen-free):

  • Vanilla Ice Cream
  • Sour Cream
  • Thickened Cream
  • Instant Coffee
  • Cheese slices
  • Banana Loaf
  • Instant Noodles
  • Chocolate Chip Cookies
  • Bread Rolls

They do have other things which do fit, such as gluten-free, sugar substitutes etc - but the non-fitting things have rendered the category utterly meaningless.

  2. The satisfaction of solving puzzle-games.
  3. Rain turning to sunshine.

I can has a pebble watch! !!!!! It arrived sooner than I expected. I have just spent hours exploring, wondering what apps and watchfaces to install. I'm still not entirely sure what I need and how it all fits together. I've installed Gravel, which is a FOSS app for interacting with a pebble (no account needed) and also installed GadgetBridge, though I'm not sure that I need both of them. I think I'm heading into information overload territory, so I'm going to take a break. #pebble #smartWatch #PebbleOs #FOSS

#SocialMedia I hereby am trying out a new plugin for #Obsidian: a post-thread-to-Mastodon plugin! It took a while for me to figure out how to actually get it to authenticate with #Mastodon; it simply would NOT do so. I tried on Linux; the results varied depending on which browser was set as my default browser; I tried both #Firefox and #Brave... I may even have tried #Waterfox too, I can't remember. [1/5]

@pedersen@c.im I've taken a quick look at their "so you want to write a plugin?" and it seems they have *written* an example "hello world" plugin for newbies to try. Whether that also means that they've improved the documentation, I don't know. As for writing a separate app, there are a few reasons why my answer to that would be "no". I like that Obsidian plugins work on both Android and Linux, without, presumably, the plugin writer having to do the heavy lifting to get something to work on both. Also, I'm reasonably familiar with TypeScript, so that would also reduce the learning curve needed. And part of the reason I'm thinking "plugin" is because of the convenience of being able to do something from within Obsidian, rather switching back and forth between programs.

#3GoodThings @3goodthings@fedigroups.social Three good things this day.

  1. Dried strawberries (I ate the last of them).
  2. Warm bed on a cold day.
  3. The folks who have enough of a sense of humour to make quirky/silly watch faces and apps for Pebble watches. (Like, the watch face which is Always Correct... because what it displays is the word "Now")

#3GoodThings @3goodthings@fedigroups.social Three good things this day.

  1. I dug in and tackled adding art to my print-on-demand store (https://fluid-visions.com) and I managed to get through all the "S" pieces! That leaves T through Z left, but "S" was a big section (over 50 pieces) so that's a great relief.
  2. I managed to get quite a bit done on my loom-knit purple bag while listening to two albums back to back; I got into the zone with it.
  3. Bob Dylan. 🎶

  3. That I was able to be amused rather than aggravated by Random Dude here on Mastodon who was trying to pick a fight with me about "democracy".

@gracehill.bsky.social I think the one which threw me out of the story the most was "council" rather than "console" (it was a Doctor Who story, so they were talking about the TARDIS console.) No, actually, I am mistaken, the worst one in recent memory, which made me give up on the story completely, was using "Parthenon" instead of "Pantheon". (Yes, an Asgard-centric Marvel fic).

Which brings me again to wondering... why do some writers feel that giving someone an exotic name makes the character "special"? (And why does the character have to be "special" anyway?) And all those other... appendages and attachments which are given to Mary-Sue characters, like purple hair and wings and royal descent... I mean, why? Or maybe I'm just baffled because I live in a mostly-classless society where one's parentage is completely irrelevant compared to one's own achievements? Maybe the authors think that being born an aristocrat really is Something Special? #MarySue #Fanfic #Fiction #Writing

Possibly these authors think that say, having a character acquire wings is an instant Sign Of Worthiness? Because fluffy wings are always angelic, right? Right? What they don't seem to realise is that anything, ANYTHING, which sets someone apart can be (re)interpreted as a Sign Of Evil. Angelic wings? Sure. "Those wings! They are an unholy union of man and beast!" Former normal-human now treated as a non-person. There are no Signs of Worthiness. (Personally, I think Mjolnir is a bit dodgy. What Odin might consider Worthy is probably not what the rest of us would...) I am reminded of the bit in "The Princess and Curdie", where Curdie asks the Grandmother to give him a sign that he might recognise her by, and she refused, saying that then he would learn how to recognise the sign, rather than knowing how to recognise *her*. It's a lot more work to evaluate a person than it is to evaluate a sign. Signs are easy. Signs separate the we from the not-we. Signs mean you don't have to *think*. #Fiction #Writing #Fanfic #MarySue
