Eternally tired. Trying to return to the ground and heal. This world is at the end of the line. I saw things you can't erase from the inside of your eyelids. Most posts self destruct after some time. Gay, taken by several, not adding more. Third worldist.

I still write programs and tinker with machines sometimes but I don't work for the industry anymore. Butlerian Jihad. Free Palestine, end all genocides. Everyone in the Dialog group is going to hell. I will not debate the value of life, entertain electoralism, or tolerate condescension from anyone outside the global south.

I do not endorse everyone I follow.

Before you follow: I don't accept follow requests from blank profiles without any verifiable sapient interactions, or if you don't interact, some evidence that you have a sense of humor or genuine interests. If you @ me to start shit, you will be muted. I can't accept fundraising accounts without verification. If I did I would be inundated with spam. I boost fundraising requests from open air concentration camps and warzones occasionally, but I won't flood the timeline with them as that will not improve reach on a small account, and may actually harm reach. I'm very broke.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@timberwraith/117327124905445317 It's honestly relieving that the mask is slipping more and more. We needed to boycott elections forever ago. Nobody gave a shit when it was this that or the other minority or a little casual funtime genocide apologia/denial (cough Biden cough Obama cough Kamala cough basically every single mainstream politician without exception) and their gaslighting was too effective, but now that it's pretty much every minority and they're openly flanking their opponents to the right, endorsing an omnicidal death cult (in public, that's the main thing that's changed, they're just saying it on main now lmao), and participating in lavender purges (sorry, you were never actually on the team f----t), I think a lot of people are finally seeing what a sham this has been the whole time

@alamarw@mastodon.social @flyingsaceur@ioc.exchange @cyberquixote@infosec.exchange I would add John Gall's System-antics and of course the great cybernetician Stafford Beer behind the late and great Cybersyn project (among many others) to this list, as both of them thought really hard and quite clearly about what it means to act within an oft-floundering mature system and a young system you want to maximize the longevity and effectiveness of, respectively. To put it another way, a system is never good intrinsically. It requires that sentient operators, operators with desires, souls, however you want to say, are constantly pressing and bending that system as required to eliminate its faults and sweep its floors, perpetually regrounding it. When a system is running on nothing but its rulebook and the momentum of its institution, it starts to die. Any amount of leeway given to a system becomes a vector along which it deludes itself by mistaking data and metrics for living ends, which in turn causes it to become like a demon, acting without any purpose except its own continuation. A system with which no living operator wrestles becomes detached from any purpose it may have had except the appeasement of its own faculties. This is a condition not unlike that of an addiction.

@flyingsaceur@ioc.exchange @cyberquixote@infosec.exchange @alamarw@mastodon.social Related: The way I see it, systems are inevitable, and systems always operate in a failure mode. That's why it's foolish to rage against systems in general, but absolutely essential to fight whatever system you happen to be participating in in everything that it is tending to do wrong. You can't stop the accumulation of technical baggage in the same way that the body can't stay alive forever, and it's really in actuality the same problem. But you can always make life new again by applying your spirit, and this is why we can never be passive or complacent within systems, including our own households. The law is essential to constructing the boundary conditions against which that which is vital may be understood, and yet it is breaking the law as required which prevents the ossification and death of the larger body and makes it new again. Any system which becomes too difficult to violate will kill itself.

@sundogplanets@mastodon.social I'm a flyover country dweller who has been madly in love with the plains as long as I've been alive and this is maybe the best poetry I've read that explains exactly what is so awe inspiring about living in a place where the land is as close to flat as it can get. it's the one place where you can tell how big this entire thing really is. a few of the times I've cried the hardest it was looking up at the milky way where there were no lights for miles, and no hills or mountains to take away any section of the firmament. it was just me and the sky, it was just the finite and infinity. There are people who have never seen a sky with more than a few dozen stars. There are people who think that everything that's here is big.

@0x00string@infosec.exchange discipline is rare. monks and nuns are a minority in the world, and the subset of those who aren't performing, but actually living the pious life of learning from the word and the first principles of the world that make it a subject for us to study, are a minority within that minority. I have met very, very few people who truly appreciate and understand the path, and I can count them on one hand, some of them my mentors, and a couple of them my students. It has been, and always was, the rarest of things. Most people just don't want to know and don't believe there's any value in knowing or caring. Same as it ever was.

@hipsterelectron@circumstances.run I'm going to have to go with the classic moment, the blinding of Polyphemus. Polyphemus is a mythical giant and cares little for humans, and eats a few of Odysseus's men. It seems justified that they should kill him or do anything necessary to escape. But what Odysseus does is at first cowardly and cruel, and then prideful and boastful, having the aspect of what Melanie Klein (a very good psychoanalyst) would call contempt and triumph, qua the manic defenses. He tricks Polyphemus in to getting blackout drunk, then he and his men drive a hot poker into his eye, blinding him. To add insult to injury, he reveals his true name to the giant, boasting "I did this to you and hear this is my name!" Before this, he'd said his name was "nobody", to protect himself (because, in the Greek civic and religious schematic, much like ours, knowing a person's name gives you the power to affect their legal person), but he decided "I'm so much better than you that I don't need protection from your crippled ass" basically. Of course, Polyphemus, now knowing his name, pled for the gods to retaliate on his behalf, so even though Odysseus was able to escape with his men, this brought a terrible curse on them. The reason I like this so much is because it directly connects pathological contempt with not only hubris, but also shows how it connects and completes the cycle of violence. "And I'm not sorry!" While they were treated as food, an animal need, they treated him with hatred, and that hatred, being abstract had the memetic power to reproduce itself as a neverending cycle of further violence. This haunts him and his men for the rest of the story!

something I've learned in life the hard way, from working for people I rather I hadn't, is that no sale to the devil is final. you can double cross that son of a nutcracker, you can still switch sides. it might hurt like hell and maybe nobody will forgive you on earth if everything's really that far gone, but it's still worth it, you will still die with the pain or the satisfaction of the sum total of what you did. it's always worth the pain to do the right thing. it's really going down and none of the harms are hypothetical. you're either with the mass murdering genociders, or you're not. there's nobody on the planet to turn yourself in to since the law of man doesn't agree with right and wrong anymore, but you can admit it to whatever power you look up to or if you don't have one, yourself. you can start a fire in the damned warehouse right now. don't wait anymore. it's all fucked, there's no moral grey area. no creature comfort is worth this. they're torching kids alive in the holy land. they're black bagging working men and women who just came here to try to help their kids. they're raping and murdering. don't go with it, it's not subtle or complicated.

@0x00string@infosec.exchange Sometimes I wonder if they instinctively know, more than the people who go for it, how much it's going to hurt, so they don't. I usually look back at where I've been and think very earnestly that I would never have taken this road if I knew just how painful it would be to know things and still retain my empathy. But I did, so I'm here. So we're here.

@0x00string@infosec.exchange You should be proud. It takes truly becoming a free agent to resist the pull of these kinds of campaigns of deception, especially when there is a real threat of ostracization against anyone who resists. It means you're capable of resisting things that are wrong even when it isn't in your own immediate interest at the first order. You look down on them like ants, and so do we all sometimes, but I implore you to color your pride with a bit of sadness. They weren't idiots so much as they were caged monkeys, intelligent, but the walls of the laboratory were the firmament they knew. The first duty of a prisoner is to escape, but most prisoners only dream about it. It makes what we can, and must do even more important.

@hipsterelectron@circumstances.run Now that I'm really thinking about it, I think the thing that makes me love the original's pacing and framing of things is that, the modern theatrical adaptations focus far more on the grand scale of violence at the civilizational level for the most part, or the major events, and to an extent, there is an at least implicit formulation of the great man hypothesis in that. In some sense, this is kind of necessary for a screen adaptation, because it is such a long text. But the thing that I think makes the writing so special is the way it fixates and ruminates on the individual moments of despair, greed, contempt, and hate, but they do so in a way that deliberately avoids being obvious before the fact about the total global impact of these moments. This is essential in my view, because it encodes the way we never know the true scale of the consequences until it is far too late, like campers abandoning a single ember without stamping it out. It shows how in every moment of meanness and spite we build that violent and heartless world, a single misdeed and reactionary impulse at a time, without ever really knowing the complete wicked design into which we are duped. This resonates strongly with the Greek mythology of their pagan gods, and it's a credit to their collective philosophical and theosophical approach. Their gods are as facets of the human follies, each representing some particular configuration of excess, contempt, despair, triumph, conceit, and so on. All the infantile and yet timeless and perfect qualities of God are spread across many characters, which intercede in the affairs of man to multiply the pettiness of the human deeds, and this gives rise to a schematic representation of the manner in which civilization both produces and mitigates its expressions violence in a single stroke, as above, so below. The Greek gods are to people as type raising operators defined by external automorphisms are model theoretically to formal objects of theories. I also had a similar complaint regarding the apparent miscalibration of scale about the otherwise very good recent film adaptations of Dune (I think Lynch's Dune does this right even if he hated it), that they were so focused on the epic scale of global conflict that those scenes unduly overshadowed these seemingly small and petty moments ("my lord, please, let me! This is a Harkonen animal!" "I will kill you! I will kill you! Now you taste... my blade..."), when the entire point was that the material systemic pressures are actually completely abstract without those deeply personal moments that connect them at the smallest scale to the actual and immediate events of the soul. A murder of passion by a best friend who feels betrayed. An act of pure spite between two individuals that spills over in to a gang war. A landlord evicting a tenant with a hungry child. That child becomes the most notorious gangster in the world. A scorned ruler becomes a genocideer over a lost lover, in a resentful or jealous fit. A little person becomes the woe of a million! This is the essence of The Odyssey. In my little journey on earth, the determinations of my little soul are forgotten in the confines of the inner world; yet the world turns in my iron fist, the world shakes at my tender touch. You are somebody. The finite, by the singular miracle of being, becomes absolutely infinite!

@hipsterelectron@circumstances.run One detail of this that resonates with me really intensely is that relationship between legal names and harm qua the violence of the society or the state being sussed out and examined. Because Polyphemus was given the name "nobody" initially, when he was being stabbed in the eye, he cries out "nobody is killing me!" Nobody is killing me! Lord that line gives me chills. The meaning in that!

Only dudes that can even come close to competing with my former powerlifter husband and that's because their mustaches are too fire. Plus they have that entire thing going on where they're the least controversial public servants. Feds? Depends on why they're there. Cops? Everyone hates the cops. Firefighters? You're never mad the firefighters are there. They're the only people who can bust down your door and you'll say thank you. It's like how nobody's ever stayed mad at an EMT for slicing off their leathers, even if they were hopped up on adrenaline on the ground after a motorcycle accident at the time. Something about guys that go around helping people as a job is so hot and charming.

Probably the only hashtag I'll use: #introduction It's in my bio. I'm not on-line a lot over the whole course of my life, I've been far more on-line since getting an account on here, and I was far more on-line when the public internet was a new thing and you could still dial up bulletin boards. I don't really share most of my life because I've been too many places people can't follow or wouldn't believe a stranger about, no hard feelings on that. Like the bio says, I am now eternally tired. Hoping to accomplish a couple more important things before my stop but I can't be rushed in this state. Bailing the ship takes enough.
