@dgar@aus.social I know tend to harp on this subject, but I really fret that I'm forgetting some key element of guitar playing.

@overholt@glammr.us I bet that if you slurped up one of their hard drives and then tossed it in a shredder they would sing a completely different tune, though...

(They literally called it an "upsell dialog", indicating that it is a coercive attempt to prevent you from taking advantage of an existing feature because they want to soak you for money. Literally.) 3/2 (Yes, I know how numbers work >_< )

@wdormann@infosec.exchange Yeah; I've been sandbagging on AI even though my org is all-in, partly because I really don't see the benefit, but mostly because it was obvious what would happen as soon as AI was fully integrated into the workflow because the exact same thing has happened with:

• Ride share services
• Streaming services
• Cloud services

When the heroin dealer comes around with "free samples", you don't proffer your veins, you stay away!
This is exactly the same business model.

@0xabad1dea I dunno, this looks like a harmonious social relationship. Plus order is being restored!

@Esoteria@social.horrorhub.club Plain, Simple Garak: "I _could_ kill you in thirty different ways without leaving a trace - five of them using only implements of the tailor's trade that I have on me right now... but where would be the fun in that?" Gul Dukat: "I think Kira is warming to me. I should capture her again and show her what a great dad I can be."

@mikebabcock @emilymbender In fact all of these examples show the problem with ambiguous terms. A truck that pulls more weight may just be geared lower. A gun that does more damage may just fire more appropriate projectiles. An LLM that does better on tests is probably just tuned to beat those tests for marketing purposes. None of those are useful measures of "power".

@j_bertolotti

poorly panted

Dude, #nsfw please! :D

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social I have to assume, though, that all the melancholy songs about trains not solving people's problems are part of the General Motors streetcar conspiracy.

@mikebabcock @emilymbender Who said anything about the physics definition of power? You gave three examples that were ambiguous, I pointed that out. And the original point was that this ambiguity is on purpose - it lets people think they know what "a more powerful model" means without requiring the claimant to define it, and lets AI slopmongers move the goalposts when it turns out their "more powerful model" is just wasting more resources for more money but no real improvement.

@thermia@sk.girlthi.ng The heat management is phenomenal, but I can't get any sound out of it.

@futurebird@sauropods.win Aside from everything else wrong with this, how do they square with the _giant gaping hole_ that allows all waves from the front and bottom to enter and, presumably, get concentrated by the hemispherical shape?? If one wears this hat and holds their phone in front of themselves (as most scrollers do), aren't they firing a 5G Death Star directly into their Corpus Callosum??

@QasimRashid@mastodon.social No Gluesenkamp Perez? I'm shocked! ...she's just canvassing with the GOP now, isn't she.

@Asterix_Archiv@troet.cafe For quite a while, I didn't know the difference between "Obelisk" and "Odalisque". I got a lot of funny looks from our librarians.

@TimWardCam@c.im Oh, yeah, the _most efficient_ response is to close the tab. But it's not a bad tool to have in the bag.

@benno@eigenmagic.net "Becomes" means "is finally revealed to be," of course.

@DanMorgan I heard the first four attempts to get this picture were scrapped, but they finally got it on... Take Five.

@britt@mstdn.games Those look amazing!

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social They were probably just waiting for the London housing market to collapse so they could swoop in and pick up some really nice deals, as is tradition.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social When, not if.

@DaveMWilburn@infosec.exchange @Viss@mastodon.social Raktajino is canonically awesome, and Scandinavia is canonically coffee-drinking. Sounds like a match made in Sto'Vo'Kor!

@sundogplanets@mastodon.social I'm required to mention Planetes as the work that etched the concept in my brain oh, 23 years back. At the time I was looking at applying to Tethers Unlimited, Robert L. Forward's electromagnetic propulsion startup, and one of their mission statements was providing a fail-safe de-orbit system for satellites. The two things in short order really made Kessler Syndrome stick, for me.

@BabblingGeek @soatok You're walking in the woods There's no one around and your phone is dead Out of the corner of your eye, you spot it (Follow your dream) You're following it about thirty feet back You gets down on all fours and break into a sprint You're gaining on it (Follow your dream) It's looking for its car, but it's all turned around You're almost upon it now and you can see there's an opportunity My God, there's opportunities everywhere

@Alice According to TMBG, there are many things to worry about when angel wings are involved.

@Sheril Amazon.co.jp has some used copies in various conditions and will ship to NA: https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/%E3%81%AA%E3%81%9C%E4%BA%BA%E3%81%AF%E3%82%AD%E3%82%B9%E3%82%92%E3%81%99%E3%82%8B%E3%81%AE%E3%81%8B%EF%BC%9F-%E3%82%B7%E3%82%A7%E3%83%AA%E3%83%AB%E3%83%BB%E3%82%AB%E3%83%BC%E3%82%B7%E3%82%A7%E3%83%B3%E3%83%90%E3%82%A6%E3%83%A0/dp/4309252494/

@Baa@mk.absturztau.be Mature And Doting Absolute O.G. ...or M.A.D.A.O. for short.

@flux@beige.party Whoa, that's a beaut!

@dgar@aus.social Pretty sure you have to count the holes in their skull to know that for sure...

@blair@mastodon.gamedev.place Yeah, but then it sounds like Fumihiko Tachiki announcing the Gaia Memories from Kamen Rider W.

@blair@mastodon.gamedev.place What you really need is is Fumihiko Tachiki reading it with the same gusto as his next-episode title readings from Golden Kamuy! 「次回：DEEP VEIN TROMBONIST!!!」

@Viss@mastodon.social It's "move fast & break stuff", not "move fast && break stuff", implying that "break stuff" evaluates no matter what.

@futurebird@sauropods.win I was not prepared for just how lovely NYC is to walk around in. We will have to come back for ice cream and peregrinations some day.

@dgar@aus.social Is it bad that I can't tell if it's Brian or James?

@Stellar Oh, is there a timeskip coming up in Tongari Boushi?

@lina Thoroughly tongue-in-cheek, but Stan Rogers' "The White Collar Holler" is a song about longing to give up the "hard life" of computer programming: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOzI0KXxTqU

@octothorpe@mastodon.online @the_etrain@beige.party @catsalad@infosec.exchange I preferred Shin Megami Tempura: Persona au Gratin: Golden Brown; it made better use of the Vita's excess heat.

@RobynGoodfellow@mastodon.murkworks.net I'd always heard that Rodan's Japanese name "Radon" was a reference to the radioactive gas. Apparently it's a contraction of pteRAnoDON.

@Sheril do we have a map of how far EV owners have to drive to make their regressive licensing taxes match up with gas vehicles? I think it's like 1.5 miles per gas mile for us.

@amerpie@social.lol These are just the maps; you have to put the Bomberman cartridge in the console to play the actual game.

@futurebird@sauropods.win This is probably a good paradigm for solving subway tunnel routing in heterogeneous underground environments...

@soatok@furry.engineer It also doesn't bode well for our packets.

@TheBreadmonkey@beige.party Obviously represents Nodnol, Bulgaria, rich in animal produce and mineral wealth, just south of Bosnia.

@spacekatia Isn't this just the backstory to Vandread?

Okay, having utterly failed to find the images / info I need online, I am putting out a request for photos:

Can anyone who owns (or has owned) a Synology DS413 specifically - not DS413J - confirm:

• does the DS413 main board have a PCI-Express slot,
• if so, what size (1x, 4x, etc.)
• if not, by what means is the drive backplane card connected?

If you own one and can take a photo of both sides of the main board, that would also help.

Thanks in advance!

It's now been six weeks since we heard a poorly-muffled 2-stroke screaming up and down our street at well over the speed limit around 10pm at night, only for it all to end in a screech of brakes and a horrific thud. In the weeks since, people have been tirelessly refilling flowers, placing memorial photos and posters, and scrawling graffiti all up and down the corner where it happened. People who apparently loved "Tony" a lot... ...just not enough to tell him to wear a helmet. WEAR A HELMET.

@anon_opin@mastodon.social Tuned to the average speed of I-5 between the hours of 6AM and 9PM, I like it.

@kyonshi@dice.camp It could be a pun on one common manga onomatopoeia for when something or someone falls over, バタ, but that's a bit of a stretch.
