Long time #bioinformatician. I'm a research professor at Penn State working on #Galaxy, and I’m still sort of the coordinator of the #GMOD project (emeritus) (http://gmod.org) and have been a developer on things like #WormBase, group lead on the Alliance of Genome Resources, and project manager of a few other OSS projects (covid and cancer). San Diego.

Profile pictures is a screenshot of #JBrowse2 showing synteny between two Caenorhabditis species.

First: 5 decades and I quickly thought to myself “he’s old” and then almost as quickly “oh, 5 decades for me too.” Second, I frequently find those rabbit holes entertaining (tho usually not exactly fun). They feel to me like an important part of the learning process @hal_pomeranz@infosec.exchange

I would add that the 2236 current database doesn’t include the 226 databases that have disappeared since the last time NAR published the databases issue. I don’t know what those databases were, but I imagine at least some of them had human curated information that disappeared when the databases went offline. @brembs@mastodon.social @jonny@neuromatch.social @ipsquiggle@sunny.garden

I started my first repo on @Codeberg@social.anoxinon.de ; I imagine I'll start porting my personal repos to it over the next few months. It was pretty painless.

I would guess that, given the fleurdelis in O in Fox that this is the Fox affiliate in New Orleans. No idea if they are Nazi affiliated though.

I have to say the thing I really enjoyed about the Spain v Cape Verde game is the video of the faces of the dejected Spanish attackers after a shot on goal got blocked. I may need a screensaver of those. #ESPCPV

For my personal repos, I don't make use of any actions, which I think would be the thing that would be the most difficult to port from another service. I expect it to be just as reliable as another git service for commits, pushes and pulls, which is what I'm going to be using it for. If I run into weirdness, though, I will post about it. @EpicBear@genomic.social @Codeberg@social.anoxinon.de

OK, more info; I went back to the house and got a better look at the art work. I turns out, it's painted on the wall! That means, the only way to get that particular piece is to buy the house and not paint that wall! Thanks everybody for suggestions though; I still might find something I like among those options.

This feels promising. The movie poster and this art are thematically in the right direction, though the dragon is too short and the horns aren’t the same. I’ll keep looking. Thanks! https://mir-s3-cdn-cf.behance.net/projects/404/4508bb145337617.Y3JvcCwyNDgwLDE5MzksMCw3ODU.jpg @adub@beige.party

Interesting. While the dragon isn’t nearly the same, the sword in the left hand and the rest of the depiction of the girl feels on target. In the illustration I saw, it was much more “zoomed out”: the girls was much smaller compared to the dragon @solderandchaos@mastodon.me.uk @mirijb2@c18.masto.host

Any Aspergillus researchers around here? I'm not one, but I'm giving a talk on BRC-Analytics/Galaxy next month and would like to replicate an analysis in a recent paper. Can somebody point to a recent paper that might be well known in the community that involved sequencing (like variant calling/pop gen, RNASeq/transcriptomics/differential expression, etc)? Thanks! #fungi #fungal

Yes, this is exactly what I’m worried about. I’m not too worried about senior people using LLMs for “schlep work” but anybody who hasn’t been working in their field for 15 or 20 years will not go through the confusion enough to gain the skill they need @gedankenstuecke

@blogdiva@mastodon.social Brains are so weird. I saw the picture, quickly read the post and then thought to myself “but wait, what did Harry Hamlin have to do with the effects of that movie” then I reread the post and saw that he was not mentioned. My brain just filled it in

Looking at it from the outside, I find it interesting that they use per mile rather than per capita, since per capita is So Much Easier to calculate and doesn't involve so much inference about how much driving is being done. It feels like it's been purposely hiding the truth all along (which, it seems like is true from your reporting). @davidzipper
