@momo You're not the only one to mention this, and indeed, I can still recall my grandparents' phone number but don't know the phone for one of my partners.
I do wonder how many people really had that many phone numbers memorized, though. There were a lot of pen-and-paper solutions.
When I was a teenager, I was assured the day would come when I'd realize how I didn't know shit in my teen years and realize how wise my parents (and most of the adults around me back then) really were.
I'm in my 40s. I definitely know what a sophomore I was as a teen. I am still waiting to recognize the wisdom my parents and teachers allegedly have. I think I always will be.

@agmlego@tacobelllabs.net To be totally honest, while its name is well-deserved, I have never had a moment of discomfort over there. Most Britons are pretty "live and let live" sorts, and often the restrooms are single-occupant or they're up to modern code and have a single-occupant accessible restroom that doubles as a gender-neutral one.
In fact, the last time I got to go out on my own, I went to a queer bar in Soho known for its sapphic clientele and was promptly chatted up by a nice gal from Birmingham.

@agmlego@tacobelllabs.net I'm all about preparation and covering my bases. I stay ready so I don't have to get ready. At the same time, I can say that I average 1-2 weeks in the UK every year and I've seriously never had anything even close to a problem. Britons just really don't like to make a scene, so as long as your work site is supportive, you're likely going to be ok. Just stay streetwise and if you're at a pub and you see a dude looking glassy-eyed, go elsewhere.
