A year after sowing all 26 of my Rhubabies have finally moved out of their vat!
If you ever want to plant Rhubarb in your #garden, save a lot of money and grow them from seeds.
All Rhubarb #Plants in the pics where sown last spring in a vat, where the grew until autumn. Then planted out all the bigger ones, let the rest sit sheltered over winter and planted them now. All survived winter - no problem, despite it being pretty harsh. Looking forward to Apple-Rhubarb-Juice three years from now.

No, just agents with a series of instructions on how to react. In this case: major waste of time.

@HeatherMJ@mastodon.social They quit the job as soon as they realised their mistake or never even applied. At this point nobody working for ICE can claim to not know, what is going on. I believe we established almost a hundred years ago, that "just following orders" is not an acceptable excuse for partaking in this state terror.

I'm just here to point out, that you can give instructions to that agent by emailing them back. Maybe a plugin to build... tagged "openclaw" -> Autoresponder for self-destruction.

If only rich are invested right now, why will it matter if the bubble bursts? Why should we care if mainly rich and greedy loose their money? We were never going to see any of it. And as you said, nobodies houses are on the line this time around, nobodies bank. Could the world at large just shrug it off? How will this affect us?

@fatsam@mstdn.social I hate this kind of condescending crap. The brain-worms, @cstross@wandering.shop, are right there in that quote. Splitting people into different classes, assigning one the right to rule the other. Yes, we are all rationalising animals, and that goes for the people who invent the machines just as much as for the people using them. Fuck Technocrats.

I think "Use it sensibly" has never been a viral post, even if that is how most people end up using any technology really. But where is the feels in acting sensible? There is likely a large gap between the behaviours reported widely and actual use.

What makes sense also depends on how many years you have left until your pension. 20-40: stock market is fine, and likely to recover. 10-20: start pulling out of volatile asset classes like stocks, whenever they are a high point and switch them to something boring. 10-0 years start moving everything you cannot afford to loose into boring asset classes with predictable returns.

We also pulled most tech focussed stocks this year. The others in unrelated industries and fixed income we are leaving where they are. Problematic are pension funds where you can't just de-risk on your own. And I did check and e.g. the California one seems overinvested in the big companies. That will hurt for a while. but things tend to bounces back after a couple of years. And this time around it is not a lending crisis.

Is the public expecting to see any financial returns on that money? And as far as I can see there's currently also massive layoffs because "ai will do your job" - sooo... Idk. I'm not saying nothing will happen and no money will be lost. I'm just unsure how large the impact will be on us average Joe's- apart from having more opportunities in the aftermath if someone of the giants fall or shrink.

In that case the crash looks bad for the immediate future, but does in fact not have that much impact, because this portion is for people whose pension is still far out and thus the market should recover it all in due time. How bad the damage is, also depends on when these companies bout the stock - before or during the bubble. If it was before, they have good changes making a profit on those stocks, even when they crash

Europe has had plenty of forms of slavery. Alongside various forms of servitude that were so close to slavery, you'd have a hard time distinguishing the two. And the people doing slavery at scale - albeit largely in colonies rather than at home - were Europeans. It wasn't the native Americans that owned the cotton, sugar and whatnot plantations.

Contracting - you get to choose your own tools.
Otherwise check out the larger Foss projects and technology NGOs. They are usually a good starting point. Also any industry that is a bit more obscure and slower on uptake on new tech: banking, internal industrial tools, stuff like that. Best of luck.

I see that the US pension funds work quite differently from the ones in Germany, but we do have some private ones that work in a similar fashion. How bad it will be depends a bit on how well the fund is managed. Usually the part invested in stocks in a fund like that should be for the portion of the people who still have a lot of time to go until their pension.

Wasn't Obamas campaign like that? It's also a pretty well proven strategy, but a loooot of work which is why most candidates don't do it.
And don't get me wrong, I am glad they achieved the results they did AND think they are worth celebrating even when they are tried and proven and not innovative.

I think Dawkins is not entirely wrong in saying he observes something that looks like intelligence. But I think the mistake is in the attribution. It is not the intelligence of the model he is observing, but rather the model is a representation of the intelligence of the people that has gone into training it - or should we maybe say: was distilled into a mathematical representation which can be used to compute certain problems.

That is fundamentally different from theists, who cannot refer to this well documented process. We know why genAI generates replies the way it does, because we know what the models were trained on and how their training was refined. It may not be public information, but it is available information. So I think Dawkings biggest sin here is mystifying what we are seeing, rather than acknowledging the actual process and the humanities collective labour stored in these models.

I had the same thought, but then again, in this scenario it would be breaking and entering legally speaking. And my guess is that the law is well intended, not wanting to give malicious actors the loophole to say they where just looking around - at the same time it's very bad that there is no exception anymore in clean cut cases such as this. It's also weird that the persued and ruled in the way it did.
