One of the fun things about watching classic Twilight Zone is recognizing actors you know from later films and TV. I often wonder how many I'm missing that would recognize if they were older.
One of the things that bothers me about creators creating their own patronage sites to get away from Patreon is that it offloads a burden onto the patron. I back 20+ creators on Patreon... I'm not going to deal with 20+ custom-rolled patronage sites, associated logins, etc. Patreon brings a big value to the _patron_ in aggregation.
(I know I follow someone who rolled his own. I still subscribe to his Patreon for the above reason. I appreciate that he hasn't left there.)
Gah, almost got into a fight with my VP when he said, "I don't know why your people are having trouble with automation. They don't even need to learn to code, they just need to explain the problem to the AI and the AI will write the code for them."
Looking at reviews on Voidtrain, which came out of two or three years of early access to full release last year, and how they go from "Mostly positive" to "mixed" in the current reviews... it just highlights the typical EAcycle. Reviewers praise an EA game for its _potential_, for the game they imagine in their minds. And then when the game doesn't meet those expectations at launch, the reviews tank.
EA games _win awards_ and then often release to little fanfare.
Does EA harm the industry?
I often wonder what manual writers are thinking:
"Clean the earbud openings with a q-tip after every use."
Like, sure. Gonna carry around q-tips or a soft, lint-free cloth to clean my earbuds multiple times a day.
I'm sure it's a legal CYA. "Not our fault if the customer gets an infection. We told them to clean the earbuds every time they use them."
Doing mid-year check-ins, and while the team has a "AI & Tooling Adoption" as 10% of their evaluation, I'm concerned about how deep they are in using Gemini to analyze logs, understand the problems, verify troubleshooting steps(!). Especially the ones really new to the job... they should be leaning on runbooks and senior team members, not making it up as they go with AI. They don't have the experience to know when the AI is wrong, and I'm just waiting for our first outage.
I know you're being tongue-in-cheek, but...
I'm cheering for the Pope. I don't believe in his God anymore, but the fundamental message of love and compassion is still true. And using Christianity to justify a war, even if that religion were actually true, is wrong.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Chicago Pope is my friend.
Hadestown was amazing. I had no idea what to expect, but I loved it from the beginning, even when I realized I knew this story and how it ends.
Misreading a car rental ad....
"Save Big during Heist month!"
Here's some irony. Harbor Freight's deal-of-the day:
50% off two-pack of Hercules tool batteries!
30% off all Hercules _CORDED_ sanders.
My fancy bananas are not ripe, and I want a banana. 😞
So I'm skimming the web, looking for an alternative to "bitch". Trying to get gendered insults out of my vocabulary.
Suggestions to similar asks on reddit are "motherfucker," "dick," "cunt," "witch," "bitch is gender-neutral."
As usual, reddit doesn't understand the assignment, the idea being not using aspects of being a women (or a man) as an insult.
It kind of messes with my head that GenCon is 4 days long now.
And even small local game cons are 3 days.
I remember when the small cons were a single day.
Firefox: There's a new release of Firefox, do you want to download it?
Me: Sure!
Firefox: Okay, I'm going to download it in the background, not install it, and just be silent about it forever until you think to look two menu levels deep to see if there's an update available.
I feel like I should watch Supernatural, but every time I go look at in my queue, I go, "15 seasons? Not today."
Of course, starting my first mid-year check-in for my team and the Oracle-powered HR service is down.
Debian team: There is a poll about AI usage in Debian with 2 options.
(later) Debian team: Now there are 5 options in the poll.
