Finally got around to updating my script to update my #OpenBSD #pf firewall with @JulianOliver@mastodon.social 's fantastic parasites.txt. (Apologies if you've seen a bunch of HEAD requests from me, Julian!)
If anyone's interested:
#!/bin/ksh
set -euo pipefail
cd /home/pertho
ftp -TV https://scienceispoetry.net/files/parasites.txt
sed -e '/^[^0-9]/d' parasites.txt | sed '/^$/d' | sed '$d' > parasites.new
doas /usr/bin/install -g wheel -m 0644 -o root /home/pertho/parasites.new /etc/parasites.txt
doas /sbin/pfctl -t parasites -T replace -f /etc/parasites.txt
[ -f /home/pertho/parasites.new ] && rm -f /home/pertho/parasites.new
Please, go easy on Julian's server. Don't blast it with requests. He's providing this for free. (Thank you!!!!)
I use my home directory because I need to store parasites.txt with its timestamps. OpenBSD's ftp (which does talk https) checks the timestamp to see if a newer one is available and only proceeds if there is a newer one.
/etc/doas.conf edited to allow the install and pfctl commands to run (just look in doas.conf(5) for details and use the args)

Hey #IPv6 folks: If I do NOT have a /64 assigned to me and only have a single IPv6 assigned, am I better off adding fd00::/7 addresses to the jails and then NAT'ing to them like I do with the IPv4 addresses?
I don't think I have any other kind of choice here.

@gumnos@mastodon.bsd.cafe ssh certificates for the win. Just sign all your hosts ssh keys with it and you can have a single line in known_hosts to validate it. So even if you reinstall, so long as you sign the ssh server keys with that one key it all works.
You can also do the same for user ssh keys.
I've been using this system for about 2 years on my servers and it's great. I store the private key in a safe place of course.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good #wiki software to host in a #FreeBSD jail?
There was an article floating around 3-4 months ago about installing one in a FreeBSD jail but Mastodon is so horrendously bad at search, I can't find it.
Bonus if it doesn't use PHP and is lightweight!
Thanks muchly!!

@tubsta@social.bsdlab.au @oxy@social.bsdlab.au I looked and OpenBSD is still on 2.3 of Dovecot thank goodness. I didn't want to upgrade to 7.9 and have it break my mail setup, but thankfully it's still 2.3.
2.4 sounds like a nightmare.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to do Disk I/O benchmarks? I want to compare a ZFS disk with an ext4 disk. Seems bonnie++ works slower on ZFS so I'm not sure what stats to look at, or if bonnie++ is even the right tool for the job.

@dch@bsd.network @tubsta@social.bsdlab.au Does Discord run under the Linuxulator on FreeBSD or do you just use the web site?
I've gotten games to install on Steam but none of them run for me.
I don't even play recent games. These are the ones I play on Steam:
Skyrim Special Edition
Portal 2
I also had a "game" on Steam called ZenkCraft which creates templates for an old MMORPG I played called "Dark Age of Camelot" but that won't run on FreeBSD (but DAoC itself does)
World of Warcraft I've played on occasion in WINE. I don't play that many games and the ones I play are old now. 😂

Is it possible to bind both ipv4 and ipv6 addresses to a jail? I'm using bastille and for now I've just added the ipv4 (RFC1918) addresses, but I'm running unbound in a jail as a local DNS resolver and I want to let in IPv6 traffic. Thing is, I'm not sure what range to use. Do I use a fc00::/7 ?

@cR0w I have to work with a guy at work who is an absolute cloudflare zealot. It drives me mad. Sadly, there is no other way to protect PHP-heavy sites, because sites that need to use PHP to render everything are so poorly engineered. About the best thing we can do is stick Varnish in front, aggressively cache things like search which always hit the backend and pray.

@stefano@mastodon.bsd.cafe I say "okay" because it was for Umbraco which is kind of a garbage CMS.
Drupal, WordPress, Joomla, Umbraco... why don't they just export the content as static html, css, and images? It makes no sense to constantly render pages with PHP on every request! If the content isn't dynamically changing, there's no point to any of it.
