I’ve been a bit MIA from Mastodon for the last few days, but there’s a good reason. I bought a 1974 MGB GT V8 project from the father of a friend of mine. Aside from needing a good deal more work, there was a catch. The car was in Burnet, Texas. I live in Michigan.
So me, my friend, and another friend are on a mission to run down to Texas to retrieve Gerald the GT and bring him back to Michigan.

I am pleased to report that the air is considerably less chunky today. We’ve improved to a “moderate” AQI reading of 89, and the air quality alert has been cancelled for SE Michigan.
It sounds as if the plume may return overnight or tomorrow, so I think I’ll do some outdoor things today while the breathing is decent.

I’m glad I finally got to see #HawkTheSlayer, though in retrospect I now realize I may have confused it with the better budgeted “Krull.” Still, it made for a worthy #Monsterdon flick.
Even if the plot was lifted from somebody’s AD&D campaign, any movie with Jack Palance chewing scenery, random synth music soundtrack, and death by silly string isn’t all bad. I loved that it took itself seriously, but not ponderously.
Great pick, everybody. Well done!

That future set was classic cheap 60s sci-fi work. A dark black set with nothing visible and one podium in a spotlight. I’m pretty sure about 1/3 of the Season Three episodes of original “Star Trek” used that approach.

Welp, that was a pretty good #Monsterdon flick, even if we fell short of a convincing massive pile of drowned giant locusts at the end. Both leads had genuine talent, the writing and effects were at least up to par for a 1957 giant radioactive grasshoppers movie, and it was a lot of fun overall.
Thanks for the good time, everybody. Go forth and polygraph the giant insect of your choice. And always remember, playing excruciatingly loud music on your boat saves lives.
