I misspent my youth listening to techno rave music.

@erisceleste @eniko I was about to say, it's weird how they automated writing code *before* they automated Jira jockeying and filling in timesheets and attending performance reviews.

@fred@social.fthevenet.eu @NanoRaptor@bitbang.social I remember a small hoo-haa when Madonna the singer successfully reclaimed the madonna.com domain from someone who was 'squatting' it. I mean fair enough, it is her name, but I'm also *sure* I'd heard it somewhere else before she was famous...

@NetscapeNavigator@social.vivaldi.net @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org This was 100% my experience with childhood asthma. For some reason we never had an extractor fan and no-one would open the window while cooking either because of 'the cold'. My Mum is still convinced eating boiled potatoes gives her a migraine, seems pretty obvious it's the cooking that causes it with hindsight.

@davidgerard@circumstances.run My sister has one and likes it pretty much because it fits her coat pocket. I haven't investigated further because it's a Samsung so I won't touch those with a bargepole.

@cstross@wandering.shop @Richard_Littler@mastodon.social Ugh, my old man was well into this stuff, to the extent that he'd nod-and-wink that anyone who knew what they were talking about (eg. contemporary scientists like Hawking) must be an alien. Which isn't really helpful when your own son is doing a physics degree, is it?

@ambientspace sorry to be the 'careful now' guy but 1990s sample CDs are notorious for being chock full of uncleared material. Just keep your fingers crossed that James Brown's people don't catch up with you!

@mark_f_lynch @davey_cakes I've had project managers question my work twice now because they've clearly not written or read the brief they sent me. First time was kind of fishing confusion - 'please remind me what this is for', the second time was straight accusation - 'what have you done, I never asked for this'. So it's destroying value, scrambling minds and wasting everyone's time even when it's working properly!

@mfierst@mstdn.social @nixCraft@mastodon.social That's always been the way, it used to be that they'd hire a consultancy firm to tell them stuff they could have just asked their own staff to explain. Familiarity breeds contempt or something, I guess.

@raymaccarthy@mastodon.ie @kadin@mastodon.sdf.org our university halls of residence had a single 2A round pin socket per room as the sole source of power. I had a 4 gang adapter wired up to it, with a 2 amp fuse for safety naturally! It was enough to run a computer a TV and my stereo although maybe not all at once.
