Here is the video of our presentation at #fosdem2025 . It was so much fun to attend #FOSDEM for the first time! And to meet IRL all the people we interact with online since months and years, notably @activitypods@fosstodon.org and @Solid@mastodon.online people. Looking forward the next edition! A big thank you to the organizers of the devroom, of the whole @fosdem@fosstodon.org and to @nlnet@social.nlnet.nl
@NGIZero@mastodon.xyz specially for the hexstickers of @leenaars@mastodon.social ;)
@thisweb@fosstodon.org @laurin@mastodon.online Hello there, thanks for your question, which is indeed relevant. As ELFA already answered, to a very simialr question, the answer is: no, it is not the same European Commission.
To be more precise:
- The Council of the European Union backed down on the proposed regulation, in July 2025.
- The EC is composed of many diverse people and institutions. Not all of them agree E2EE is bad.
@firesidefedi@social.firesidefedi.live interviewed @laurin@mastodon.online a developer with the #ActivityPods @activitypods@fosstodon.org #project!
Watch this nice conversation about Laurin, ActivityPods, and anything else to get to know Laurin.

Following up on that topic, it seems the discussion on Tech Sovereignty Package is postponed by one week, to 3rd of June.
2 things to add:
- the minutes might not be available before a month or two after the meeting takes place. This is the current backlog for previous meetings and their minutes.
- Open Source is probably not removed from the package. It isn't listed in the agenda but might still be included in the policy. Let's wait and see, and hope.
