Before covid, masking practice. N95 3M Aura masks, trying to keep fine smoke ash particles out of lungs.
Horrified watching barefaced jogger out huffing 200+ AQI air.
Sky orange, sun purple at noon.
House windows all shut, air filters humming.
HEPA filter in car A/C system.
Cats meowing to tell us air's broken. Poor cats!
Arguing with school about not sending kids outside for PE.

My spouse sent me a screenshot of a CBS news item in her browser.
It was a report about a source of the American Cyclospora outbreak being lettuce from Taylor Farms, but paired the article with a picture of Taylor Swift.

In the 80s, as a young adult, I tried getting getting around my (unnamed) sprawling American hometown only on a bike.
Racks and panniers loaded with groceries or laundry, a halogen generator light for night.
Main streets had no shoulders, often no sidewalks, so getting anywhere meant elaborate meanders through suburban side streets, navigating an unwelcoming environment.
Being an interloper in a place built only for cars.
To not have a car in a place like that!
Ordered a LoRa meshy radio from Seeed, got it yesterday, flashed from website meshcore.io, bumbled radio settings until I saw "choose preset", chose "US", then was on the waves at 910.525 MHz.
Beep, boop...
Contacts, mostly repeaters, started showing up as the radio saw packets go by.
I sent out an "Alert • Flood Routed".
Repeaters kept answering, saying "Yeah, we see you."
Bouncy-bouncy, from the Coast to the Central Valley, Sonoma to SLO.
Pretty cool for 150 mW.

There is the concept of an oligarch as a purse.
A purse is owned. It's a convenient place to stash and dispense wealth from. It carried about and controlled by another. A purse does not own the money inside it. A purse is a container, a tool. And a purse can be changed, when it is no longer wanted.

He talked about a future in which cars and trucks would drive themselves, saw an opportunity to put 30m drivers out of work, and seize the value of their labor.
What was notable?

For me, it was the initial "Huh, nothing is happening" worry.
At first, I saw nothing at all. Only once I had stumbled across the "Choose Preset" and matched the local BW, SF, and CR, did packets show up.
What is the right way to check if the nearby mesh can see you?
Is sending an "Advert • Zero Hop" the right way?

Mmmm. An oligarch... is more like old story from soldier who told of being underneath falling GPS-guided gravity bomb, hearing it whistling down, hearing the guidance vanes of the bomb clacking as it steered itself onto his position.

What if previous surges of public stupidity were #InformationWarfare probing attacks?
Inputs would be manipulations, disinformation, messaging.
Outputs would be changes in behavior, consequences, words repeated.
Injecting taggants into information streams enables tracking info flow. A misspelling. Particular image.
Instrumented information environment would give view of each individual. Web and adtech would be key to monitoring.

@ozeng Another method, was to look at a Meshcore map with repeaters, find one located on a nearby mountain, go to the top of my building, then look at the menu at ⋮ → Tools → Rx Log , to see if my node sees any new packets

It occurs to me that this serves as a way to check that one's client can be seen by the mesh.
Like a mobile phone's cellular network signal indicator?

I bumped the assistant icon of my car's touchscreen. An unfamiliar voice announced that it was the new AI assistance, and asked what I wanted it to do.
I replied in surprise,
"I don't want anything, other than for you to go away. Go away now! Fuck off!"
Then the AI replied that it would, with a *hurt* tone in its voice.
That's weird and ugly, to create a fake person having a fake sad moment.

Software firm, where the execs were very proud of using software product in-house, had a server named "dogfood".
Horrible system.
It had devs crawling all over it. Lots of ssh keys, rando sudo access, custom dev binaries. Impossible to admin or secure or service.
Sales poopers hated the name. "Ew, dogfood?"
They got it renamed "champagne", their happy celebration drinky. Rich peeps drink that!
But admins then quietly refered to it as "Hot dog water", retchy boil water.

Neighbor's overloaded citrus tree lost a branch, my kid helped them cut it up and bin it. Saved lemons, he came home with 10 sacks full.
He went right back out, walked about, gave other neighbors 9 of the sacks, everyone happy, all made lemonade.
I tells him,
