SET SARCASME OFF; In my country (The Netherlands) the electricity net is so full, that we can't connect much more businesses and/or (new) houses. What would have caused that? Mmmmh. Net zoals met zoveel andere zaken kiest men voor het eigenbelang, boven ethiek, om hun uitingen / propaganda aan een zo breed mogelijk publiek te kunnen doorgeven. Mastodon / Bluesky is, relatief gezien, extreem klein. Instagram? Als je daarvoor kiest, dan maakt het ook niet uit dat je Twitter gebruikt. Één pot nat qua bedenkelijk bedrijf dat erachter zit.

@runbox Last week Fastmail introduced MCP as an option, with which AI agents have full access to all user data (emails, contacts and calendar). Because email is an open (un-encrypted) protocol I cannot fully control if my emails are read by AI when the recipient uses AI. What I don't want is that my email provider will make it *easy* for AI agents by offering MCP (or other AI access protocols). So I will stop using Fastmail and am considering going back to Runbox. BUT, that depends on if you will not one day do the same as Fastmail? Or will you stay always true to the privacy claims, and *not* make it easy for AI to access data your user's data? #noai #runbox

@EMDiscussions @runbox Well, from some perspective I see that as a positive thing. Like Richard Hipp says about C: "The C language is old and boring.", meaning that something that isn't changed often, might be actually what you want. Email is also "old". What I want is a stable service, with the standard needed (access) options as a minimum. Some things shouldn't be touched, like allowing AI to access user data.

@vnkr@mastodon.social What exactly don't you understand about what I'm saying? Are you saying that the blog article says that they don't provide a way for AI services to access their customer's mail? Yes, it's optional. But many people, at least those around me, don't (yet) realize the dangers of AI. They see it as something fantastic. Fastmail should protect customers from mistakes they might regret later. Just like no longer allowing unsecured ports for SMTP/IMAP. Fastmail claims to be a privacy-focused service. That isn't evident here. That is what I'm trying to say. You're talking to a Fastmail user from day one here (= 25 years).

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Yeah, could be, but to be honest, it costs a lot more than f.e. the all in one (mail, storage, photos) price 2,99/month that Apple charges. I would be fine if that would be 5 or 6 euro, but it's really a lot more.

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Fastmail just announced that they have added MCP support, so that AI can access your mail. How nuts is that for a 'privacy focused' email service. So I've decided to migrate. Maybe to your service, but I have to be sure that you'll never allow AI to access my data, no matter if I want that voluntarily. For me it's fundamentally wrong to add such access, even when it's optionally. #noAI
