Unsurprisingly, beavers are the much needed firefighter volunteers

"Beavers build dams, dig channels and transform small streams into broad wetland areas. This helps keep plants lush and green, even throughout long periods of drought"

"The study “conservatively” estimates that beaver dams have the potential to store a total of 120 mln cubic metres of surface water and create 2200 square kilometres of fire resilience in high fire risk areas"

Why beavers could be a secret weapon against Europe’s wildfires

Beavers’ penchant for dam building has created natural fire breaks across Europe, which could help tackle deadly blazes.

The US is so pathologically capitalist

...that they get to the point where:
1. they commoditize political resistance by writing tons of self-help books of dubious quality on the topic
2. they commoditize the abundance of the above by selling the excess in an outlet (Humble Bundle is a sort of outlet for digital products)

After the defeat in Hungary, Bulgaria offers Kremlin's next best bet

"Radev’s campaign has been bolstered by a network of former senior Bulgarian military officers who have connections to Russian military intelligence and have backed Radev by promoting his views against support for Ukraine, according to a European intelligence official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive matters."

@davep @yawnbox @Mer__edith with decentralization you're throwing out of the window not only latency, but often also the capacity to guarantee delivery. Consider this talk for details: https://hapyyr.com/@bogo/115401249466782443 ...also for alternatives to Signal and the corresponding tradeoffs.

@jeantranscene @reiver at least for me, this thing is the threadiverse. Whereas mastodon is centred around people, the threadiverse is centred around topics and interests. People are complex and have various interests. As a consequence, they don't emit a consistent signal on topics. Long story short, try this search: https://lemmy.world/search The mechanics behind this is that you can follow threadiverse communities from mastodon as you do with users.

Is there a way of getting him out other than the DoJ starting an antitrust case? Because this is certainly not happening in the next 2 years. A best-case scenario would be Trump flipping the coin to save his ass after the mid-terms. But even he is not so stupid to think that his ass could be saved after all this.

@punissuer @wikkit but they are not exhaustive to energy. Adding lithium exports (corresponding to oil and gas) or those of internal combustion engines (to electric vehicles) would work against the argument. So instead of making a valid comparison between the trade of two countries in a certain context, the charts serve the opinion of the author.

@dalfen@mstdn.social funny that the conclusion should be for e-cars and not for public transport, good old bicycles or just reducing urban traffic. As it happens, the preferred solution is the most expensive among these, meaning most favourable for big money.

@cdonat @funkylab An interesting question is who posts jobs: do professionals do it from their profiles or you allow organisations to create profiles? Org profiles could potentially be a paid feature. There are lots of quality professionals are already on fedi, so companies might have the reason to pay. 4/4
