Bliss - Sitting in the back garden with a cold Vimto, writing blurbs for the site in between doing a bit of Dot Spotting.
Gorgeous blus sky, but not too warm, especially under this parasol.
Pity MAN is on 05s rather than 23s, because no arrivals come this way on those runways, but im getting loads of photos of heavies coming from Europe before hitting The Pond, as well as some stuff on approach to LBA.

@mhoye For years, the Tories in the UK and the GOP in the US have been crying "China and India are pouring pollution into the air, we have to keep doing it if we don't want them to overtake us!" And now, those countries have cheaper power because they invested heavily in renewable, while the UK is opening new oilfields, and the US is binning new renewable projects.

Well, that was unexpected!
Falling asleep while scrolling through my timeline on #Fedi on the bus to work at stupid o'clock, and someone comments that they stole a hashtag from me.
Im gonna need surgery to remove this mahoosive grin!
(Or get to work!)
I have other, similar, daily themed hashtags, go on, knick those as well, you know you want to...😁🫡

So, ive been doing some thinking...
I know, i know, you were wondering what the burning smell was...

But, is the ActivityPub/Friends plugin combo on WordPress mature enough and capable enough to make it usable as a full-time Fediverse client?
Im Just looking for ways to mitigate any future problems like I had earlier today when the instance went down because the disk was full.

What a gorgeous day for going planespotting.
Just a pity I'm on my way to work.

Hi ho, Hi ho
it's off to work i go
With a bucket and spade
And a hand grenade...

If its like this tomorrow, I'm taking the camera out to play - i was planning on doing some jobs around the house, but thats what Tuesday is for, right?

On This Day 12th April 1992.

33 years since my first ever flight!
G-BJXJ, Boeing 737-204, Britannia Airlines, about to taxi out to Runway 24 at Manchester Airport, 12th April 1992.
Photo taken from seat 29 F on board G-BMRJ, Boeing 757-236, British Airways, as we pushed back prior to taxiing out to Runway 24 for departure to London Heathrow.
I wasn't actually planning on going anywhere that day, but there was nothing going on at the airport, and I had a few days off work, and I managed to get a dirt cheap seat on this flight after I was bored enough to ask!

@chillybot@infosec.exchange @ifin@infosec.exchange Would you mind if I ask a serious question regarding pronouns, and what some would see as "humorous" use? I am a cis-het male, and have both "he/him" and "they/them" in the pronouns section of my bio/profile. Is this something that could be regarded as problematic by people (well, apart from those for whom the very existence of pronouns is a problem!), or would it be taken as an attempt to normalise the use of pronouns, the way i intend? Or am I over thinking this?

@chillybot@infosec.exchange @ifin@infosec.exchange Thanks - this has come up a couple of times and, while I'm not expecting any one person to speak for a whole, varied community, I'm interested to find out if anyone takes it the wrong way. So far, the only people not to like it have been the people who get offended by pronouns, and ive had some abuse for it, but I'm lucky enough for it not to be serious. I did once joke to a friend who is trans that I was thinking of using "Oi/You", and their response was to go "Ooohhh, wait a minute", them sent me a link to their new profile, which had that there. But I think that would be taken as bad taste, so ive never used it, even though i do tend to answer to that - working in retail does that!

Typical!
Manchester Airport has been operating on 05's all day, which means that the approach path(s) go nowhere near me.
The sun is thinking about going down now, so of course, they change to 23's, and start routing some flights over my house.
My new lens hood turned up earlier, this might be an excuse to go outside and test it!

Ok, thos is axweird question, but...
Do some Australian GA aircraft have registrations in the 19-nnnn range?
I've seen some photos of small, possibly home-built or experimental planes , all of which were taken in Australia, but i can't find any reference to thst prefix.

@simontatham On a semi-related note, there is an episode of the classic British sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf where one character, Timmer, has a few weeks to prepare for the officers exam, and sets about the perfect revision timetable, to learn everything in perfect, biteize chunks. And he spends so long making it perfect, with everything colour-coded, and his pens laid out just so, that he ends up realising its the night before the exam and he hasn't started, you know, revising... So he pulls an all-nighter, with lots of stimulants, then has a mental breakdown as soon as he enters thecexam room, and fills the exam paper with the phrase "I am a fish" over, and over, and over...

@futurebird@sauropods.win I mentioned in a comment yesterday that right-wing tech projects often have an Open Source code base, and even called out Truth Social for this. Which is amusing, as Open Source projects are often a good example of Socialism st work. I think the problem is that, here on the left, we try to build consensus first, whereas on the right, someone will build something then say "here you go, use this!" and everyone will do as they are told, like good little Capitalists/Racists. The Fediverse has been around for decades at this point, but it wasn't until someone built a new frontend for GNUSocial, then built a compatible backend to extend it's capabilities, that #Fedi gained any sort of traction, and it didn't explode until he replaced the default OStatus protocol with ActivityPub. Pretty much one guy took an existing product, modified and improved it beyond recognition, and said "here you go!", andvit was fairly widely adopted, flaws and all, especially on the left. As a counterpoint, there were plans for a fork of Mastodon, to get around some of its perceived flaws. Committees were set up, and sub-commitees, arguments flared over COCs and TOSs, debates were held esoteric over definitions of words, and not a single line of code, as far as im aware, was ever modified from the original code base, let alone new code added. RIP Florence, we hardly knew ye. And that is precisely why there isn't a similar push from the left.

Writing blurbs for one of today's photos, snd going down a massive rabbit hole that is only tangetially connected to said rabbit hole.
Considering doing a series of photo-essays on the history of Manchester Airport, at least over the time ive been going there - i keep making references to things that used to be there (like the terraces), and people who have never been, or are used to the modern airport, wouldnt know thatvthese things ever existed.
