It took longer than I expected but my copy of "The Psychology of Software Teams" by @grimalkina@mastodon.social has finally arrived. Just in time for my vacation next week.

@annaecook@mastodon.social I was talking to a junior dev yesterday and they were trying to tell me that native html elements are not accessible. You have to use React for that.

@TheVinylApe@cupoftea.social @ghost_shit@aus.social that’s kinda what I love about Paul’s Boutique and other 80/90s albums is that they would be impossible to make today. I’ve been on a binge of collecting that genre of music lately so if you have a list of good record stores please slide it my way.
Also, “It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back” by Public Enemy would like to talk to you about greatest hip hop album of all time.
This conference is 6 months out and is already down to 15 tickets left. Don't come begging to me in 3 months time asking for an extra ticket!
@webstandards@mastodon.world
This is so dumb. Carbon capture a) doesn't work and b) produces more carbon than it captures. Just spend that $15M on renewables instead. Nobody wants carbon capture except for our industrial overlords.

It’s #transdayofvisibility so I wanted to share these amazing stickers from @accudio@front-end.social
For local #ottawa folks, if you are in tech please join us at an upcoming Forward JS meetup as we strive to create a safe space for our LGBTQ+ community members.

@matuzo this should get you through the decade:
A Tribe Called Quest - Peoples Instinctive Travels On The Paths Of Rhythm (1990)
Wu Tang Clan - Enter The Wu Tang (1993)
OutKast - ATLiens (1996)
MF Doom - Operation: Doomsday (1999)

@Ashedryden Sneakers (1992) Redford, Poitier, McDonnell, etc. great cast and pretty realistic description of pen testing for a 90’s movie.

@TheVinylApe@cupoftea.social thanks for the awesome list. I don’t get out to Vancouver as much as I used to but I’m always looking for an excuse to visit friends there. I’ve added them all to my list.

@TheVinylApe@cupoftea.social Oh, I live in Ottawa but I travel a bunch so any of your favourite spots in any town/city are appreciated.
But yes, I’m in love with Sonic Boom in Toronto. My wallet is happy I don’t live closer.
Has anyone checked on the flat Earther’s today? Are they doing okay? I assume all this extra evidence has shaken their belief system.
Jk, they don’t care about evidence.

@shawnhooper@fosstodon.org yup, I’m heading down as well with another buddy from Ottawa.

@shawnhooper@fosstodon.org yeah, bald white guy with a beard kinda describes me and my buddy as well.

@matuzo it’s been too long since I’ve been to AMS but there are too recommendations that still hold. The first is Winkel 43, you should grab their apple cake and the second is really upscale, De Kas. It is an amazing restaurant that has it’s own attached greenhouse for veggies.
@alice@lgbtqia.space the Batwoman comics written by Rucka and lovingly illustrated by JH Williams III are pretty amazing. Grab the first volume, “Elegy” from your library.

@matuzo I was trying to pace them out so the release date was every 3 years. If I was being a completist then this list would have 80+ albums.

@brianleroux mine would be “Punch it Cheewie” as a nod to Star Wars 1997 which would have existed in the Star Trek universe as a movie.

The quote from @baldur really resonated with me as I have worked in orgs where the managers incentives (features and due date) were at cross purposes with developers incentives (quality). Predictably this led to buggy software and huge amounts of technical depth.

@inthehands @jenniferplusplus One spot I worked, I saw someone climb the ranks by starting new initiatives that "seemed" like a good idea but were incredibly badly thought out. The person used each project as a springboard to something bigger by getting out before it was discovered the previous project was crap. That way they could always blame the maintainers.

Haven't been posting which records I've been listening to during my workouts because we were one of the houses who got a flooded basement in #Ottawa on July 1st. However, I recently had a very good day at the record store.

@shawnhooper I love how they skated by the heat issue, the power issue, the radiation issue and the communication lag issues with hand waving “not now, but soon”.

@brucelawson@social.vivaldi.net ah yes and don’t forget this newly opened straight now comes with a brand new $2M transit fee split between Iran and Oman.

@inthehands I could tell stories about one core product that had three rewrites. None of which managed to eclipse the original product so the company had to support four separate streams of the same product.
