https://www.theage.com.au/national/nsw/sydney-man-to-face-court-after-calling-muslim-schoolgirl-immigrant-terrorist-20260915-p60xg3.html Police are going to 'throw the book' at this man for his islamophobia towards one person. Just imagine what they would do to someone who regularly used racial abuse and encouraged hate and division - but a person like that could never gain much popular support in Australia, could they? #AusPol

A fair percentage of my life is spent in various medical waiting rooms and for today's episode I have been conveniently perched opposite a cabinet labelled 'Stationary'. Taking Special Relativity into account I am pleased to report that the label is quite accurate. From my point of view the cabinet has not moved, at least not for the last three hours anyway.

Far be it for me, an avowed atheist, to quote scripture but I'm going to anyway; “Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper ... – Proverbs 28:13 I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. – Psalms 32:5 Just imagine, if you will, if the CFMEU used financial tactics such as these. The circle is finally closing.

The ALP has become the LNP while the LNP has become One Notion.

They will solve all of our problems by an across the board increase in cruelty to the poor, the disabled, the elderly the disadvantaged and the displaced.

The ALP has been urged to secure a “fairer return” from natural resources at the National Conference. If only they had some power, some authority, like, I dunno, like being the Government or something. I dunno.

As peripatetic philosophers were have solved all of the worlds problems in under two days.

You will notice the changes immediately and there is no need for thanks - you're welcome.

I also like that bit in the bible where jesus says that the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the needy the sick and the powerless cause all our problems and should be locked away indefinitely in offshore hellholes and denied the slightest vestige of human compassion.

Bishop, as a partner with the law firm that took on the work of stooging asbestos victims (they deliberately extended litigation until many of the victims had died) instituted a company Document Retention Policy, which was, to not retain documents.

Bishop leaves us with a significant legacy.

Integrity, however, is not a prominent feature.

https://jacobin.com/2026/05/taxes-rich-victims-mamdani-obama

Calling to tax the rich is the same as yelling a racial slur, and billionaires are, apparently, victims of oppression just like racial minorities.

This fear of being in a minority is odd.

Is there some way in which minorities are oppressed in our society?

Anthony is putting AI within his own department. This means it will be secretive, highly bureaucratised and at the mercy of lobbyists. AI corporations can't get at our money, because most people don't want to pay for it. So they're going after government contracts and that way, our government can give them our money anyway. This will all be funded by the cuts to public services that have already begun. Need the NDIS? Computer says no.

@peterrenshaw@ioc.exchange @maudenificent@aus.social The scarcity and tone of these articles also contributes to the normalisation of these occurrences. I well remember when airborn pollution first became a concern. The weather presenter would cheerfully tell us that the air was pretty well unfit for living things to breathe, smile reassuringly and move on to the temperature outlook. Now we must become 'resilient' in the face of these perfectly natural weather events.

In my lifetime I have seen US clergy, dressed in all their finery, blessing warplanes ready to fly over Vietnam and drop napalm on peasant villages. These men women and children were apparently such a serious threat to the US that they had to be burned alive in the name of jesus.

@MyView@aus.social Yes, the wandering philosopher. Years ago a school class of mine referred to me as Crapitus the Peripatetic because of my habit of wandering around spouting crap. I was, and still am, charmed. I am still in contact with several, the oldest in her sixties. And just to return to the real subject, my Plutarch translator suspects that the philosopher and the historian are one and the same.

Replying to
@MsDropbear42@blahaj.zone @kauer@aus.social @maudenificent@aus.social I heard that sigh. I'm also interested how the discussion has been hijacked to focus on values rather than, dare I say the word, ethics or even morals. We all know where it would lead if we were to look at what Australian values really are. The white Australia policy was not invented by Arthur Caldwell, it was a reflection of the values of his constituency and I use 'values' advisedly because many, including Artie himself, would not have known an ethic if they had fallen over one. This country was established on the basis of denying the existence of an entire population and then proceeding to kill them, enslave them or both. None of this has been a positive contributor to social cohesion and we live, every day, with the legacy of this ongoing shame. Events in Alice Springs are not happening in isolation and are directly attributable to the social, cultural and human degradation of an entire population - not just the despicable actions of one person who has spent most of his life in jail. This point is never made in public. I sigh, in chorus, with you.

@MyView@aus.social Fortunately we are able to focus on his (alleged) conversations rather than his somewhat extreme lifestyle. My particular interest is that these were people who actually *believed* in something, anything, and who also lived the consequences. Diogenes did no harm and yet where would he be in 2026? Socrates pointed to the dangerous flaws in Athenian 'freedoms' and was promptly executed. Plato began cleansing Socrates' ideas as soon as he was in his grave.

Replying to
@MyView@aus.social The main problem is that there is very little to know at this distance and I often feel that too much emphasis is placed upon the who rather than the what. It's a bit like the Shakespeare discussion casting doubt on the authorship. My response has always been that all the plays and poetry were written by an entirely different person whose name happened to be William Shakespeare. In this, of all ages, it might be time to rethink the differences between 'fact' and 'fiction'.

I've tried many others but they all insist on using an external browser only and this hits the paywall. Also try the extension; 'Remove Paywall Free' available on Chrome, its derivatives and Firefox. Also Archive MD (https://archive.md/) will display an archived version if there is one.
