How will the archeologists of future civilisations interpret the remains of ours? Born at 325 ppm CO2. Living on Ngunnawal and Ngambri country, aka Canberra, Australia.

Humanitarian Security Risk Management. Climate Change. Public Transport. Equity. Treaty. Privacy. Anarchy. Often mistaken for an adult on account of my age.

Free Palestine.

Nice one #Netherlands !! ❤

The climate impact of the animal abuse industry does not get enough attention in #Australia.

Why can't we do this in #Canberra ?

"Amsterdam has become the world's first capital city to ban public advertisements for both meat and fossil fuel products. Since 1 May, adverts for burgers, petrol cars and airlines have been stripped from billboards, tram shelters, and metro stations."

So, after about 18 months on the public waiting list my number came up!

Today I finally got my dodgy ankle seen to. (Ruptured a ligament about 18 years ago, and found out via MRI there was bits of bone floating around the joint. Hence the pain and reduction in movement).

Ligament repaired, gnarly bits of growth, damaged cartilage and bone shaved away, and a floating chunk of bone removed (pictured).

Should have done this years ago!

HUUUUGE shout out to ACT Health, and the private hospital in Deakin they put me in for the Op and the overnight observation. The surgeon, nurses, everybody is just so kind. ❤

The creep of relentlessly improving AI will render so much of the human content on the internet indistinguishable from AI.

A prediction:

'Verified human' or AI-free platforms will attract a premium. Human made and genuine human-to-human online communications will be prized.

#Mastodon will be rewarded in due course for bucking the #AI trend and remaining resolutely human (less of course the clearly labelled reposting bots. Reposting is not the same as an agentic AI profile freely engaging online).

Meanwhile over on #BSky ...

One I waited for till I got home so I could edit it for privacy. This raid by the AFP has provided us a classic, textbook example of 'The Streisand Effect'. And generated lots of business for the bar, which is lovely to see. Hats off to The Plod for a job well done! 👮‍♂️ And of course to Ken Behrens who are having none of this shit. #Streisand_effect #auspol #canberra

@luciedigitalni@aus.social The loyalty tax is real. I changed my ISP when I found out they were offering discounts to new sign ups that they would not extend to existing customers. I ask for the same rate as new sign ups, they said 'no' so I left.

@luciedigitalni@aus.social Indeed. Years ago I did the same at gyms. Signing up for their free two week period then moving on to another. Took far too long to realise I can save money on gym memberships by not having one. #agentfatbastard

@emmadavidson@aus.social Ahhh ..... Al Manoosh. Cedars of Lebanon. The Raiders Club. The Austrian Club and the now sadly closed Alexander Fax bookshop. There is/was something for everyone in Mawson. And bridging the north-south divide would be lovely. Grew up in Pearce and the map of everything north of Civic was 'thar be dragons'. Drove thru it on the way to Syd with the windows up in the Datto 180B. A tram diplomacy, 'peace in our times' opportunity! ❤ End the false sectarian divide forever!

@tillmanreuter@ecoevo.social I beg your pardon. I was not clear. The protocol itself is not inherently resistant. AI agents (I am sure) can be programmed and released. 'Humanity checks' set up by Admins however can prevent AI Agents setting up other AI agents. And slow down humans! Mainly however, the moderation culture of the Fediverse mitigates against the reach these bots will get. Once (if?) detected they can be 'limited' or worse. And if a server becomes notorious for hosting AI agents other servers can defederate - reducing the point of setting up AI agents on Mastodon.

@Tooden@aus.social Absolutely. While we rightly bang on about how disappointing the uniparty is on pretty much everything, and warn against the siren song of a PHON alternative, we really must hold up the good bits to be celebrated, defended and extended. Legacy systems left to us by prior generations. Almost like giving credit where credit is *due when they don't f*ck things up! While remaining realistic. If Public Health, the PBS, Public Education, libraries, public transport, bike paths, et al did not currently exist there is zero chance the current regime would legislate them into existence. None. Zip. Nada. They would be 'reckless spending'. If a progressive alternative is anything, IMHO, is nothing if it is not optimistic and positive. While being 'Conservative' (in a weird, left handed way) via deterrence to precedent, Rule of Law, and humanitarian principles kind of way. Old fashioned kindness. The 'fair' go, not the 'equal' go. Etc etc.

@Old_IT_geek @davej (But I do agree that the ACT treats those living in apartments as cash cows, even owner occupiers. Rates should be MUCH lower for apartments.)

@gusseting@mastodon.social Indeed. We are a long way away from banning animal products. But removing advertising from public places would be a step in the right direction.
