@buherator@infosec.place @drwhax@infosec.exchange I sometimes advise investors (poor life choices I guess) on how to deal with the increased risk of Mythos & others. And this was the bottom line. I don't even need AI specifically to argue for that. The time-to-exploit has been dropping forever. We've built better catalogs and more versatile infrastructure and complex automations. It's very clear that this includes vuln research as well. We had this already with static analysis hitting the field. We answered with "shift left": Building security into the dev process, since the earlier you do it, the less issues you'll end up with. Every step earlier has more downstream impact. We've finally reached the stage where security as part of your design & architecture is not only best practice but becoming a hard requirement. Our automations (including LLMs) pushed us there and we need to deal with the outcome. Or should. Because I'm a cynic and I've seen what's happened, I doubt that engineering will follow through with this. I see two paths and we'll move along both, and I don't like either: Acceptance and few centralized Oligopols. 1/2

#emfcamp was absolutely awesome. Something a bit unusual that stood out positively but was not mentioned though (I think) was the toilet situation: I think I've never seen toilets so clean and cared for, least smelly and generally in good order on any camp/festival yet.

Acceptance. There's the saying "you just need to be more secure than your neighbor". It's not fully true but biz people hold it so. It's flip side is a cynic commentary on security, and a true one at that: If your neighbor is not secure, you don't need to be either. This is still true if you're getting pwned. When everyone's getting hacked regularly, society will accept this new reality. Only the defense sector will still care for security. We've seen similar developments in different industries: Fast fashion isn't an adequate replacement for garment that stands the test of time. But it's getting impossible to buy good clothes, even if you want to. But also with other goods: If everyone produces low quality items, it's financially more reasonable to do the same.
Centralization. Coz we won't do the right thing and reduce complexity, we need to find a way to make complexity "secure": Cloud, Big5, etc. Corps that have the resources to host an Exchange server securely... or in compliance with regulations. Every tool you do not let a big house host is a liability. Not coz they're necessarily more secure, but because nobody will blame you if something gets wrong. We had that with "buying IBM" once.

I hate this outlook but I seriously doubt that we will correct course.

And then with the boys... I just didn't compile well with them. I preferred joining $crush with her girls training. But I could do that only occasionally and then the boys became even more "manly" and I was stuck. I felt I didn't belong. They talked about playing the men's league (instead of boy's) and I was *terrified*. I didn't want to play the men's. I could accept, at best, boy's league. And then I quit. And now I'm back, officially in the women's team. This huge part of my life is coming back, I'm reclaiming it. I'm more than ready for it.

Puh, wie hat sich dieser Artikel bei @heiseonline@social.heise.de verlaufen. Klar, 'ne Meinung, aber puh ist das unqualifiziert. Als ob irgend jemand gegen die ePA wäre, weil wir den Menschen mehr Aufwand bescheren wollten. Ich bin sogar für eine ePA. Nur halt... nicht diese. Sondern eben eine, die meine Daten adäquat schützen kann. It's just that in system that prioritizes supposed "efficiency" over resourcefulness, encourages exploitation above solidarity ... it is really hard to use AI in an ethical way. This is not unique to AI – all tech exists in this system – but AI is rather terrible in the way that it speeds up this whole clusterfuck. Scales up this whole process of power centralization and paving the way for future abuse in a way that few other technologies can "claim". It's "just" technology is often correct in a literal sense but fails to grasp the scope. Yes, I'm not "anti AI" in the sense that I'm against... the concept of this technology. I just don't think that *using* this tech is ethical in almost every case. If someone would only collect weapons and never use them – just hypothetically – I wouldn't have much against that as well. In that sense I'm not "against" weapons either. I'm just against people using them. Anyhow, I hate how "meritocracy" has become something tech circles consider something positive, better than democracy and equality... and even worse: How this "it's just tech" concept has taken this already terrible ideology, got it wrong, and somehow made it even worse in the process.

@marlin@haminoa.net Oh, das war ein reines Politikum. Der Vorschlag:tm: der all diese Probleme korrekt adressiert hätte lag lange vor. Der wurde aber blockiert, weil dann ein solcher massenhafter Datenabfluss per Opt-Out gar nicht erst möglich gewesen wäre, rein technisch. Aber während sich das für uns was nach gutem anhört, hörte sich das für Karl "Datenschatz heben" Lauterbach und seine Vorgänger für einen Nachteil an. Und damit hat er kurzerhand nach langen Jahren des Stillstandes durch gegenseitiges Veto von den Datenschützern vs. Ministerium, ersteren das Veto-Recht entzogen. Und sie da, wir haben jetzt die kaputte ePA in der alle Daten gesammelt gelagert werden :~
