I write software. I play with software.
I take pictures, photographic pictures.
I dance; tango, Swedish and continental folk, medieval inspired.
Sometimes, I also participate in #queer, #gsrm, and primarily #polyamory / #relationshipanarchy spaces.

Sometimes, people refer to me by nickname. #Wolfie #GrayFox

What I express here are personal opinions, unless I clearly mark them otherwise.

So it seems that #codeberg decided to participate in the #ai polarisation. I don't judge them for that, it's their choice, of course. But, I can see how that will cause another exodus. More network drama, more polarisation. Will the next place also be (quasi-)centralised? I prefer to self-host, and to choose decentralised forges instead. Like #radicle

@ewjoachim@piaille.fr Yeah, but they seem to have ways to go. Most of all, federated isn't quite my idea of decentralised... the way it's developing, it's true that it's not *one* central place. However, there's still a tendency for conglomeration onto large servers, so it seems to end up with ... shall we call it decentralised centralisation? Another nice feature with #Radicle is that it's local-first, i.e. you can work offline as well. That's a big win in my book.

@rkaj@mastodon.nu https://codeberg.org/ethical-foss/open-slopware uses a self-fulfilling definition:

slop | Anything generated by AI, typically code, books, articles, or images.

It's pretty dumb and nonsensical if you ask me.

RE: https://hachyderm.io/@davidculley/116984144382730224 I agree that there's a lack of understanding democracy in some circles. #codeberg's members made a collective and democratic decision, and there's nothing wrong with that. What I have a harder time is the argumentation that's used, and quite specifically that agentic coding leads to slop almost by definition. That there's no way around that... and it seems that this gets repeated so much that it becomes "truth", without checking. Alienation? I say yeah...

RE: https://scholar.social/@gedankenstuecke/116972420410253859 The AI bros don't understand collectives. Codeberg's decision to not tolerate LLM slop wasn't a top-down decision made by some CEO/dictator. Codeberg is a collective and anyone can become a member with voting rights. The members voted democratically, and about 70% of the members were in favor of not tolerating LLM slop. This decision is the will of the majority. It's the democratic will of the collective. For talking so much about how "AI" democratizes this or that (software engineering, music making, …), the AI bros really don't understand democracy. Nobody is forcing AI bros to use Codeberg if they don't like that decision. Codeberg isn't a monopoly. Unlike with the monopolies these "Zero to One" Thiel fans love so much, there are plenty of alternatives where they can take their LLM slop (GitHub, GitLab, CodeFloe, …) if they dislike Codeberg. The AI bros can even self-host a forge of their own with Forgejo. Which they can do free of charge thanks to Codeberg. I won't say more to avoid giving the AI bros ideas. Just read my post again to know what I hold back. These CEO-loving monopoly-loving AI bros cannot handle it when other people have different opinions than them, that don't even affect them. "There can be no other god but my god." These AI bros live lives that are so empty in their chase for ever more money, in their chase for status, for titles—their lives lack any sort of meaning or purpose or community, or true happiness and self-acceptance—that they try to fill the void in their lacking lives with a religious fervor not much different from Christian missionaries or conquistadores. Finally: If you like the idea of collectives and community, you'll like #anarchism. Anarchism is democracy without a state, according to David Graeber. If you like Codeberg's approach, follow @DGI@graeber.social and check out @champagneanarchism@kolektiva.social.

@richiekhoo@hachyderm.io The hiatus from github has similarities with the hiatus from sourceforge, back... was it almost 2 decades? I forget. Back then, it was another form of enshittification, but still. So history repeats itself. Everyone moves to another place. The lesson is to try not to get too emotionally attached to whatever place you end up in, I guess...

@Infoseepage@mastodon.social @mrundkvist@archaeo.social
If the LLM didn't give you links to the stuff it researched for you, you're using the wrong tool. Use a better one.

If you didn't bother to have a look a the linked material, that's on you.

(General "you" used)

Also, if you're getting much slop, you may want to choose a more suitable model. Some are just not made for this sort of thing.

@ahltorp@mastodon.nu @rkaj@mastodon.nu Not sure what you're looking for in terms of scenario, but perhaps a summarised session could do?

  1. Human chooses a task to be done, and describes it to the agent, with criteria and guardrails.
  2. Agent produces something.
  3. Human reads what agent has produced.
  4. If human understands and likes, the product is shipped (committed, packaged, whatever), and the task is done
  5. Otherwise, human asks for explanations, or opines, and gives the agents refined instructions.
  6. goto 1

I was greatly annoyed by autotools 'cause it implied a Unix sort of platform. Believe you me when I say that porting autotools to a non-Unix platform was no less than hell (I did that, back in the 1990's... it might be a bit easier now, but...)
