I've been sleeping on Krita (FOSS digital painting software) big time
Zig 0.16.0 is tagged. Release notes are just about completed and will be published in about 20 hours when the tarballs finish building.
As it turns out, it takes a while to build LLVM 27 times on one computer! That's how many different targets we provide compiler binaries for now - all cross compiled from one host.
Release notes are up!
I wish it went without saying, but these notes are completely written by hand.
In a way, computing embodies the essence of humanity. We take a blank canvas of electrical fields - a purely physical phenomenon, devoid of inherent meaning - and imbue it with assumptions, values, and purpose, manifesting order despite a chaotic, uncaring universe; creating beautiful pockets of defiant structure, each clock cycle shielding these brittle gardens from entropy's relentless encroachment.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.
"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."
Playing with the new multi-threaded fuzzer in Zig. Look at it go!
WARNING: Your yt-dlp version (2025.08.11) is older than 90 days!
still works tho! looks like el goog lost the battle 💪
sometimes it's nice to get thrown a softball
Alex Rønne Petersen joined the Zig core team in October of 2024. Hard to believe it’s already been a year and a half since then!
After a long, unplanned hiatus, I'll do a live coding stream starting in a couple hours from now.
Main topic will be a demo of some partially completed changes to the build system, and pushing forward on it a little bit.
Q&A will also be welcome from chat.
@indutny I left my comment on the HN article just now:
I used Node.js extensively for about a decade, both professionally and as a hobby. I don't buy the problem statement.
These arguments don't even make sense, they look LLM generated. I can't even formulate a disagreement against this nonsense.
@mitchellh@hachyderm.io void return type is either peak joy or peak suffering depending on the competency of who wrote the function
@iamnotU@mastodon.social @platlas@en.osm.town that's some pretty aggressive apathy. I think there's a healthy balance of how much to care about what other people do
