The pets are being too cute, I can’t wait until #Caturday to share. It’s only been a few weeks since we adopted Opal, and she’s already getting along so well with Bowie and Rosie. #CatsOfMastodon #dogsofmastodon

@mttaggart@infosec.exchange yeah, this tracks my experience very closely. I was laid off shortly after expressing concerns that some of our LLM powered features were not production ready (but were shipped anyways). Another dev that was laid off along with me had been raising concerns about how agentic coding, while speeding up the code writing process, was just shifting the burden of work onto code review.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social I understand what the cartoon is getting at (VOTE people!) but I think the car is already past the exit. We’re going to need to drastically change direction to get out of autocracy (as we’re already there). Voting is necessary, but no longer sufficient to get us out of this mess.

@Beggarmidas@mastodon.social @ProcessParsnip@mastodon.ie @joachim@boitam.eu possibly. I think the solution isn’t going to involve widespread use of LLMs though. It’s a terribly expensive, inefficient and unreliable technology. I think we’ll look back on them a bit like zeppelins or jet-packs; a technology that sounded cool, but had too many impracticalities to really be useful. And jetpacks and zeppelins never consumed more resources than a midsized nation.

@Beggarmidas@mastodon.social @joachim@boitam.eu what to do is stop investing into AI companies, and stop buying shit produced by AI. Stop hyping the shitty text prediction machine that just sort of “works well enough” for a glitzy demo, then fails spectacularly when put into production use. And stop trying to shoehorn it into everything.

@eniko@mastodon.gamedev.place exactly 🎯 I also take some issue with saying “I made this,” when one just asked an LLM to make the thing; both for coding and art. Sure, both coders and artists rely on tools, and the tools evolve over time—but their comes a point where one relying on the tools isn’t really engaging in a creative process anymore. Electronic synthesizers are music instruments; but someone who just presses the demo button isn’t playing music.

@Njord@zeroes.ca @GoblinQuester@dice.camp exactly my thoughts too. Children are people with full rights, and the role of parents (in my opinion as a parent), is to support their children, and help assert their rights, especially while the child is too young to assert them for themselves.

And probably also excluding the deaths from suicide by the poorly compensated labors who have to weed out the CSAM and other internet filth from training data (https://restofworld.org/2025/the-ai-con-book-invisible-labor/ ).

@kgw that looks like a pretty cool utility, I’m going to give it a try. Another handy utility with similar functionality is TLDR - which is a shorter and easier to read alternative to man. When I need information on the details I use man, when I just need a quick overview of what the command does and how to use it, I use TLDR.

@Njord if you ignore the ethical, environmental, and social problems of LLMs, I think they can be useful in limited situations (taking care to remember that it is often wrong and keeping skeptical of its replies). But once you factor in the ethical, environmental, and social problems, they are worse than useless. The limited benefits in a few situations are vastly outweighed by the massive harms .

@mattly@hachyderm.io I've started using em-dashes more often lately—it's fun to mess with people who assume they are a sure sign of LLM use, and they are easy to type on Linux with a compose key: compose - - -. BTW, I wish I discovered the Linux and the compose key back when I was in grad school; its far better then searching through the insert symbol menu in MS Word.
