My doomer narrative is “putting earth’s resource exhaustion in overdrive will accelerate the anthropocene extinction”. It has nothing to do with what the slopfactories can or cannot do. It has to do with the simple fact that life needs a few valuable resources, and can exist only within the confines of a survivable climate and environment.

The big fish get symbolic wrist slaps at best, and even those tend to vanish quietly. It’s actively worked against (chat control), and disregarded by the EU institutions themselves - that keep putting our data in the hands of others. Who happen to be hostile, or under hostile control, as things go.

People from Botswana, Uganda, South Africa and Kenya duped by recuiters from “Russian Houses”; conscripts and forced laborers from North Korea and Russia. People, not “orcs”, or “vermin”, or “subhumans”. As noted many times, the dictators and oligarchs are the same everywhere. As are the people they send into meat grinders to further their interest. I find no joy in these horrors.

Even after all those years, my heart still skips a beat when my eyes stumble upon a “next step” phrase.

It takes be back, very briefly, to a time of relative innocence and naïve hope of technological progress fueling human emancipation.

Those hopelessly naïve hopes and ideals were shattered, eviscerated by powerful perverse mechanisms. We should have known better, have understood that the enlightenment machine we seeked to build could and would be taken over and subverted into the torment nexus. Regrets.
