RE: https://infosec.exchange/@flyingpenguin/117291979714655004 This article is about a problem that is not seeking a solution. The connection between this "antisemitism" and the behavior of the nation of Israel is the elephant in the room that is not to be mentioned, as to focus on that would threaten to solve the problem. There is an Israeli flag, but the word Israel does not occur in the article, neither does the word genocide. The solution is being obscured, rather than being sought. Go figure. #gaza #genocide #palestine

Does anyone else feel kind of weird that the genocide has been obvious for a long, long time, yet the crimes against the Palestinians just continue. The US and Israel are obvious war criminals in the eyes of the world. Yet it just continues. What kind of a world is this? #genocide #Gaza #Palestine

RE: @patricksudlow@mastodon.social

There is a class division over the genocide in Gaza. The ruling classes tend to support it, while the common people are strongly against it.

My instinct tells me that where the ruling classes cannot bend toward justice, it is there that they will break.

This could happen wherever a ruling class has been marking time during the genocide, whether in the Arab monarchies, or the West. The social division between the power people and the humanity people is very sharp.

Humanity cannot put up with murderous behavior of the power elite. It must be brought to a halt.

The mindset of genocidal leadership has, as its first priority the establishment of "facts on the ground". It is a "ends justify the means" argument.

The idea is that once something is in your possession, the rightness or wrongness of how you got it is less significant. Possession, or facts on the ground, is taken to be a sort of anchor of reality.

How to deal with this murderous, genocidal, way of thinking? How to deal with ideologies in which only the ends matter, regardless of the means employed?

I think we need a counter-balancing dynamic in our own thinking. In my view, the genociders should, right now, be condemned, and absolutely so.

We need to be clear with ourselves that we will not put this issue down until the genociders are behind bars, and nothing less.

We need to get clear on this, now. We need to lock it in, and make this resolution, itself, a fact on the ground.

There is no continuity of voice, just a profusion of colorful illustrations and cleaver ways of saying things. This goes to the controversy regarding whether the Trump Administration is composed of idiots, or is it composed of satanic acolytes? They didn't prepare us for these questions in school. Instead, they cast them off as being absurd: How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?

Now I am wishing that the professors had taken a crack at the possibilities of metaphysical malfeasance of various kinds, and helped us to develop a vocabulary for bringing it up when it is noticed, discussing it, and addressing how to deal with it once it has arrived.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@tusk81/116890759549570184 When people get in a certain frame of mind, one thing can lead to another, and before long, all hell breaks loose. What we need here is a civil response to incivility by the powers that be. A general strike would do it. Problem there is, a general strike would require discipline and hard work to make it happen. But, if we can't come up with discipline and hard work, then what is the point of any of it? If the answer appears to answer violence with violence, then it would best to refactor something somewhere, as I see it. Anyway, there is the positive proposal: a general strike until we achieve some basic standards of civil behavior, especially from the forces of the government. They do come for all of us. We should work together. A general strike would demonstrate our discipline to the society at large, which is where democratic political power resides.

In the first week of the war, Fatima Nofal was a mother to five little dreams. She had no idea that a single day would turn her life into a story too heavy for any heart to bear. That day, an Israeli airstrike shattered her family. Amin, Hamza, and her infant son, Ahmad, were killed. The hardest part was not only losing them—it was the way she had to say goodbye. Rescuers brought her tiny, unrecognizable remains, and no one could tell whether they belonged to Hamza or Amin. As for Ahmad, the youngest of them all, his tiny body was pulled from beneath the rubble. Fatima survived, but she did not emerge the same woman. She escaped with her two daughters—Baraa, who was wounded in the attack, and Lina—while a part of her heart remained buried beneath the ruins alongside her children. Months passed, each one unbearably heavy, until God blessed her with another son. She named him Zaid. To Fatima, Zaid was never just another child. He was life knocking once again on a door that grief had long since closed. She often looked at him as though God Himself was gently comforting her exhausted heart, saying, “He is the gift that restored a piece of my soul.” And he truly was. With a smile softened by tears, she would say: “By the time he was nine months old, he would imitate his sisters when they raised their hands for prayer. He would lift his tiny hands and try to prostrate himself, like a little angel sent to fill our home with peace once again.” As Zaid grew, so did the fragments of Fatima’s broken spirit. Every laugh, every small step, every innocent smile reminded her that even in the deepest darkness, life could still make a flower bloom among the rubble. But Gaza rarely allows its mothers to hold on to joy for long. The little boy who was born in the midst of genocide… was taken by it as well. In another airstrike, Zaid was killed. Fatima and her daughter Lina were wounded, and once again she found herself lying in a hospital bed, carrying the same wound she had believed was finally beginning to heal. As she prepared to say goodbye to her fourth child, the doctor looked at her blood test results, then quietly said: “You’re pregnant.” For a moment, time stood still. She could not understand how one heart could possibly carry so much at once—mourning the child who had just slipped away while, in the very same moment, receiving the news of another life growing inside her. She wept. Not only because she had lost Zaid, but because she realized that this war had forced the mothers of Gaza to live suspended between funerals and births, between graves and delivery rooms, between one child leaving the world and another arriving—bringing with them both hope… and fear. This is not only Fatima’s story. It is the story of a mother in Gaza. Every time war steals another piece of her heart, life struggles to place another piece back into her hands. And somewhere between unbearable loss and fragile hope, a mother’s heart remains the only miracle that never stops loving, no matter how many tragedies it is forced to endure. https://gofund.me/83e09b493 #Gaza #Palestine #StandWithGaza #MutualAid #Humanity #SupportPalestine #SaveLives #EmergencyRelief

RE: https://mastodon.social/@AsarSameer/117027885271603937 The genocide continues. How long have we been hearing this? How long will we keep hearing it? For one, I will keep saying it as long as it continues to be true: The genocide continues. The shamelessness of power is its worst feature. It reflects the shamelessness of the ones who put the shameless power into position, who handed their power to it. In my view this is the large, too large, part of general public who think that they can claim to be decent people while ignoring what their power is doing to the victims. In a genocide, the children are the primary targets. It is a genocide. It is shameful to duck the issue. It is right there in front of us. It is going to become more in front of us all the time, until we do something about it. #genocide #Gaza #Palestine #Sudan#genocide #politics

The contradictions between what is claimed and what is actual are reaching record levels. That a populace is able to sustain these levels is an index on its cultural integrity, the integrity of the system that binds the individual to the society. Only "unthinking" people can sustain such contradictions reliably. An unthinking populace is the demagogue's ideal soil. This populace will become the stuff from which empires build their substance. The populace, in such cases, is agreeing to not participate in decision making. It is the innocence of the child in need of a parent. Those who escape this mentality must deal with those who do not escape it. #genocide #militarism

@Bad@hsnl.social Great discussion, all around. In analyzing for root elements, I landed on pleonexia: the taking of more than ones fair share. It is an old word, but never mind the word itself. What matters is that it is an old idea. It is a root social concept. Everyone can intuit that the inheritance we receive as a legacy of the ages past, is a common inheritance of us all. The further back one goes, the more ancestors we all share. The bounty of it is an inheritance in common. But some people take more than their fair share.

@ketan That the LLM is being misused in such a way is a sign of the times, it is a natural consequence of overgrown complexity. Things are complex enough now that people do not know what the LLM is, and so they misunderstand what it delivers. That people persistently ask the wrong questions is a sign that the situation is too complex. However that may be, signing off on something that is not understood is always fraud. The LLM will probably get it right, if the question is about what people have been writing about. But if the question is off in la-la land, the results are generally undefined.

@Beggarmidas@mastodon.social @alda@topspicy.social The pursuit of the essential rules which produce natural language, which in the age of computing became known as natural language processing, but is much older than that, going way back to ancient civilizations. That they came to the form of the the "transformer" model, and the "training" of the large language model, acquires a statistical "understanding" of the shape of language, in detail. It is not plagiarism, but rather it is the discovery of the formula in formula fiction, and analogs in all domains. My view is that, once the nature of the machine is understood, then there is a realistic understanding of what it can, and what it cannot deliver. People (consumers) have been led to believe that the chatbot is something, when the reality is that it is something else. The genesis of the consciousness that it is (wrongly) perceived to have, that genesis is in the minds of the developers who are hoping to make a fortune, and take over the world thereby. More or less. It becomes a cultural matter.
