Trump outsourced custody to one of the last absolute monarchies on Earth. Taxpayer money paid for a total absence of law, so Trump could operate a black hole. Then an American agent driver panicked into a U-turn at a checkpoint, troops opened fire, and that black hole backfired.
Three weeks later nobody is talking about the "diplomatic incident" in the country paid $5.1 million to disappear up to 160 deportees.

at one Silicon Valley firm, for example, I was doing a late night physical data discovery because... executive men had setup a blackmail operation where they would hire attractive young women, invite them to house parties to drug and rape them with photos and then control them at the workplace.
let's just say back in the day it was very cloak and dagger to try and catch high office predators. the work was dangerous and very hard. I can close my eyes and see that guy's Porsche headlights at midnight racing up the parking lot... the blinking lights of my dd operation... I wasn't going to get out in time.
despite landing a smoking gun on the HR desk, that company refused to prosecute the perps because executive privilege or such. ex-cop head of physical security resigned over it in protest. later one of the same execs was caught by the SEC for other crimes.
IP theft forensics was like a walk in the park: headlines, high fives, high pay. but stopping crimes against women... some of the most difficult work I've ever done and completely secret.

Makes no statement about victims.

I've seen this predator logic before.
Cornell sounds a lot like a cult leader who says he's breeding a master race using concubines, who says you should trust that he knows what's best for his victims.

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org when I was in rural Devon a zillion years ago at a pub I was served a pint of cloudy cider.
"them little floaty bits is from the process. we throw in a bunch of apples, then hay, then apples, then hay, then apples, then hay"
so it's hay?
"slow down lad. we only just begun. apples, then hay, then apples, then hay... then a leg of lamb, then hay, then apples. let it sit a week and press!"
so it's lamb?
"oh no, come on, what do you take us for? disgusting. it's the rats that come eat the rotting flesh! can you taste those rats, lad?"

Finland has been quiet lately.
"...'small but growing risk' that Russia might launch a limited military offensive against one or more neighboring NATO countries in the near future."
We used to say Finland could be in Moscow and wipe up Putin in a few days.
Even easier today.

"SpaceX has ended its mission, calling it a success. ... The company said the spacecraft lost one engine during the ascent to space and was working to determine if it could go into orbit due to the loss of the engine. In an update, however, they said the Starship was in orbit. SpaceX later shared it had decided to end the mission early, taking advantage of its first checkpoint. ... Because Starship is not designed to land in cold ocean water, SpaceX said an explosion during splashdown took place, which is not an indication of a problem or an unsuccessful mission."
Ends early, claiming "first checkpoint" is the whole mission and then explodes because the ocean is too cold.
It was a test to last 6 hours and 10 orbits, with a splashdown, all of which it failed.
Liars. Fraud. Disgrace to space.

to be fair, a good history degree starts with the premise that libraries are vulnerable to data integrity breaches and it only gets worse without continuous effort from historians.
I'll never forget being tasked "get in those stacks and report everything that's wrong"
Open quoted post

A people with no history are not "a people" they are labor, customers, automata subject to the whims of the markets and the people who drive those markets.
It's obvious that burning the library, burning the books is wrong. We understand that words written by people we can never meet, people who are far away or long gone can make each of us more powerful.
But what if the fire that consumes your library is instead a torrent of nonsense? Fire is only one kind of entropy.

Cornell administration, being run almost entirely by men, wants everyone to stop criticizing lack of response to this report. I wonder why.
and I also wonder how many Cornell rapists went on to a career in Big Tech.
years ago, I remember Google fired nearly 50 men in one year for sexual offenses. the number of investigations was ofc higher. imagine a town of Google's staff size running hundreds of serious sexual assault investigations. then think about using that town's products.

1) steal because unaccountable
2) run massive debt on stolen assets because unaccountable
3) claim danger to self/family and demand militant protection or disappear into island exile
Charles I and Louis XVI both hit step 2 and met creditors who demanded a parliament. When they reached for step 3 they met a violent end (one raised an army, one ran for the border).

some of us have been saying this for longer than OpenAI and Anthropic have existed.
In 2012 I called it the Loch Ness problem. In 2016 I said Tesla AI would kill a lot of people because of such poor design.
we will never find the AI monster, as the whole game is selling a mythological fear while failing to do the basics.

@iris_meredith@mastodon.social Good piece. You include input risk with a prompt, yet leave out output risk. A model that can only say things is unconstrained, yes. A model whose outputs are parsed into typed actions and checked deterministically before anything runs is constrained. Coding harnesses do this with unit tests, but we can do much better.
Behavior-based control doesn't care about inputs or intentions. I give away an open source harness as proof, and just demoed it live today at OWASP: https://wirken.ai

@Sustainable2050@mastodon.energy that's a LOT of propaganda! reminds me how Bernays said after WWI pork consumption would have disappeared without his direct intervention of heavy propaganda.
