i've been asked those same questions, by a former partner - they didn't like my answers
i haven't really had a "dream job" since i was a kid. my experiences have not led me to associate labor under capitalism with dreams coming true.
i'm also a person for which predicting my life or the state of the world in 5-10 years seems kinda ridiculous
a lot of the help offered to struggling people is predicated on having the mindset of a cog & expecting good things from a bad system

it's hard for me to see social shaming as anything other than a tool of control and conformity. i'm not convinced we need it at all.
shame within the individual tends to just result in fixed behavior and identity. if it often doesn't encourage growth for individuals i doubt it's useful for the collective

i'm also anti-AI as it exists but i tend toward ethical claims against it for their own sake versus inducing shame and expecting that to have the effect of changing someone's opinion or behavior
they're often done together on social media but they can be done separately
i don't think most of the anti-AI posts i see and boost specifically use shame. it's more just strong opposition like: they're digital colonialism run by authoritarians, bvrn 'em, etc.

i think that in practice the distinction is flattened but i think the distinction is real/salient
shame as a motivator fails pragmatically if not also ethically
shame was previously used in societies where there was more cohesion & sense of community. it's more likely to work in that sort of milieu
where people are atomized/polarized today i think it's likely to cause more division. conservative culture is shameless as a stance of opposition

and the collective is not a monoculture of completely shared norms
i used to think shame could be wielded for good, as it was in some cultures or societies in the past. i don't think so anymore, but i could be wrong
i do think we should all model behavior that we would like to see replicated. but i think change ultimately comes down to individual choice.

i see shame being used as a tool far beyond AI discourse, in fact it seems to be the first choice for many political discussions
it may be that dividing up into small communities is where things go. i think those communities will be quite vulnerable, but it may be the choice folks' make

shame can also divide/harm these smaller communities. as it relates to conformity i see shame as a factor in informal authority. once people are in groups according to niche stances groupthink can continue inevitably. i think this can be seen in leftist spaces in real life or online. individuals insist that one must match their views completely or else they're a bigot, fascist, etc.
shame and conformity go well together but affinity is not conformity
