8.3 was arbitrary; nothing was stopping me from going to 8.5 other than phpBB/media wiki limitations.
Custom login auth forces everything to auth through phpBB, which is gated through a service key check: you have to be a service subscriber to register. Protects everything and leaves auth at the forum.

3 apps, all running on 5.6 before I started.
Now PHPBB and MediaWiki are extracted to subdomains, and the main site app at the root domain is also upgraded to 8.x.
Skipped 7.x entirely. 5.6 -> 8.3 + each app is isolated and can run on its own PHP version in isolation VS having to be run together.
