Among all the sh!t I have to sort out at various $WORK places, it’s been years since Hyper-V was not one of them.

@oxy@social.bsdlab.au last time I was 🤏 close to hyper-v, there was some shared CIFS/NTFS involved to build cluster safe storage. Some sort of hyper-converged infrastructure before Nutanix were in the game. With copy/sync/duplication thing. But I forgot most of it.

This is a sandbox. If something or somebody escapes it and start ruining the World and harassing people, it only means a single thing: bad parenting and poor adulting model.
yes, this post is about a current technology hype.

@oxy@social.bsdlab.au being lurking on those this weekend :) CF-33 is really yummy. But I was surprised how expensive they still are. I mean, I thought those were ancient toys.

Reposting this because I got
#RunBSD stickers at #EuroBSDcon2026 and can now illustrate the post with a proper image :D Also updated the temperatures screenshot.
So that's basically how much watts are #NetBSD and #OpenBSD using by default on this AOOSTAR WTR Pro NAS machine and how to have #FreeBSD use less watts as possible while still operating Jail and #bhyve services.

One of the main problem with #Slackware #Linux is that it is rock solid. Why is this a problem? Because I never feel like doing updates!
If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it.

@dch@bsd.network yeah, I also used rclone for a few things. But as I said, I’m not into alternatives at this moment, I need a frictionless option :)

There seem to be a trend on my IG timeline for "I’m moving from Windows to Linux because old computer are still valuable". Which is:
pretty nice.probably just Meta trying to please my confirmation biais.not sure it’s that of a trend in normies’ TL.
Anyway. That made me smile because my todo list has: check which *BSD has a working OneDrive client so I can migrate $WIFE laptop from Linux to that BSD. 😅
Yes, I know, OneDrive. But not all wars can be fought and won at the same time.

@sizeofvoid@bsd.network I don’t have non-working things to complain about (now that relayd sends a UserAgent during heartbeat ;-)
One thing I miss is that relayd doesn’t log in Apache’s format. That keeps it from being used with standard log parsers. And needs extra work when you want to get infos out of it.
I also find error logs to be sometimes cryptic or too silent. I recall having an issue exposing GoToSocial. And it took a couple of minutes when switch to using nginx to get a "too many open files" in logs. relayd also had the problem but never told me. I guess there are a few other errors that fall into void.

@felipe@social.treehouse.systems depends on the target IMHO.
servers are mostly OpenBSD. A couple of FreeBSD to counterbalance dislike from FreeBSD laptop journey. Both are trustable. OmniOS and NetBSD also follow this path but have limitations mostly due to pkgsrc.OpenBSD laptop just work. Although it has its limitations. But what is supposed to work does work.FreeBSD laptop are always annoying pretty quick - because "laptop" things that should work don’t always; mostly audio and suspend/resume here.

Today, I have yet another reason to rant against FreeBSD...
It wrecked all my OpenBSD bhyve machine by not waiting for them to properly shutdown after I ask FreeBSD to reboot (to apply updates). Well... not wrecked as a couple of fsck sent them back to business.
I've had other issues with bhyve on OmniOS but not any suck dumb behaviour :-/

BTW #Slackware buddies, is there a simple special trick to have #Slackbuilds install in /usr/local rather than /usr?
Like some environment variable to set before running the slackbuild script?
The idea is to keep native slackware fs "sane" and add all extra stuff elsewhere.

@raster@retro-gaiden.com not to start a browser war but I like Librewolf better. It seems to strip way more (unwanted by me) stuff while still being useable as a daily driver. And, there is a FreeBSD and OpenBSD port :)

When you think, long ago, VMware had to prove it was escape-proof, had to be audited and labelled escape-proof, so that we start thinking maybe we could virtualize one or two physical servers. Then, this 👇🙄

This aimed to be a simple
#RunBSD post about the AOOSTAR WTR Pro NAS system. But it ended being nearly a "Tune #FreeBSD for power consumption" one :p
Anyway, I very like this tiny #HomeServer. And it fits wells in my #HomeLab closet.

So that #NetBSD 11.0_RC7 got installed on X280 and works… couci-couça…
pkgsrc has hickups with pkgin these days.touchpad has some weird unexpected double-click reaction. But I tuned nothing, yet.although Wi-Fi was configured and ran during install and setup was saved to the installed system, it seems wpa_supplicant don’t start at boot. I have to doas start it some that I get WiFi working.also about WiFi, connecting to 2.4GHz works but not to 5GHz.apropos and manpage exist for apm and zzz but binaries do not exist. The online HTML doc says using sysctl is the way.
That said, suspend/resume works, CPU speed management works with estd, audio works and watching a YouTube video with Firefox does not make the fan blow too much.

I refrained from replying: shutdown -p now.
