@morrick@appdot.net Happy to disagree, just one regarding the cookies: I feel like websites often default to use it just to make sure they comply, even when not necessary.
However, I totally agree those bars or popups could (and should) be much more user-friendly. This part definitely shouldn’t be blamed on the regulator. 👍

I find it interesting how creativity in IT is so easily delegated to AI, while we would never accept it for other art such as music or movies.

I saw this video(https://youtu.be/rQKis2Cfpeo) with Jobs where he says you need to have an amazing core of the team, which then becomes self-policing in who they let into that group.
I would just slightly adjust that sentence: You need people who care a lot, then they police each other.
Do people at Apple still care as much as they used to?

Also humans have full cost of their work and time spec’d out.
But I think companies rushing to market with AI agents to gain traction are currently selling the services under the real cost - to gain traction. They will need to make this money back one day.

I’m refining a simple website designed in Figma, which I am just lazy to code because I’d rather use the time designing than coding.
Somehow I’m doing much better with Cursor than Claude. Or Cursor doesn’t run out of its free plan in just a couple commands.

Interesting that the same kind of law is now passing in European countries, including the UK.
I think people should be left to smoke whatever they want legally. The extreme taxes make up for whatever costs come with it. And if I may be cynical, here in Czechia we sometimes say that smokers die sooner so the pension system benefits. 🙈

There’s two types of juniors:
1) People you hire as your employees, and those are definitely people you want to train. Nobody became a senior right away.
2) People you get just to increase velocity, who don’t deliver much and who don’t have the potential or long-term perspective in the company, often from a different country. And this velocity can now be obtained by using agentic AI.
Also, have you tried translating something? The contrast is amazing!

You may ask why, but I often forget what I have in the fridge, so it might be an app exactly for me. Especially with such a beautiful icon, as I also like to keep my home screen nice.

@morrick@appdot.net There should be a good enough reason and large + good enough impact. So far we got annoying cookie bars, less info from Google Maps for stuff we search for, trouble with access to AI on iOS and Android, and trouble with interoperability between Apple devices.
I don’t mind Apple doing well with Apple devices. I don’t mind Google putting their results higher. I would be happy with opting out from the European Commission bullshit.

I’m currently experimenting with icons in a web app in such menus, but with toned down opacity (or rather with a quite bland tertiary color), and looking to see how much they help to guide the user while not feeling as cluttered as menus with icon color same as the text.

@amonduin@mstdn.ca Oh I wish I could find my older post where I wrote that okay, if they want to enforce these, they should enforce an easy way to accept or reject.
But I also think there is a difference between a cookie just for the particular website (or web app) to make it work smoother, and a cross-site or facebook pixel tracking which the user should specifically agree to.
