@jirirbr@mastodon.design @morrick@appdot.net cookie popups are better than the alternative. Before cookie popups there was no way to opt out of tracking, even if most people don’t realize you can or should. I think the EU should have taken a more aggressive approach to requiring reject all buttons and making it really clear that reject all won’t impact the websites usability. I also think they should have required it to be a browser level feature so websites couldn’t just keep asking. However, regardless of how annoying you find cookie popups they still give us more freedom to opt out of data collection than prior to their existence.

#Canada #CanPoli Continue to write to your MPs to oppose making a bad trade deal with the US. Stand up for Canada and continue to oppose the making of permanent concessions for short term relief. I recommend phoning the constituency office or visiting in person as that tends to be more impactful than email.

#Canada #canPoli The Carney government disappoints again. Write to your MP if you can and oppose giving in to US pressure. Yes the tariffs will hurt but we need to get it through the heads of our corporate and political leaders that the US is no longer a stable trading partner. It is vital that we pivot away from trade with the US, every concession is a step away from building a better future.

@avilewis@mstdn.ca fight to pivot away from free trade with the US, they can no longer be trusted and we must redirect imports and exports to build and retool around a domestic economy. Stop buying iPhones, buy only de-googled android from non-US companies, avoid US tech services. Migrate away from Facebook and twitter to mastodon and support alternatives. We should stop trying to integrate with the US and should instead build domestically, we need to grow up and realize we are a large economically diverse country that can survive and thrive with much less US trade if we choose to diversify and build domestically.

@stroughtonsmith@mastodon.social I think requiring apps to be resizable below certain sizes (to support compact widths) on iPad was another big detriment to native iPad apps.

@TheEjj@mastodon.social @marcoarment@mastodon.social the whole executive team needs to go,it isn't as if any of them need to work for a living anymore. They could all make a statement but they are either to craven or too corrupt to do so.

#WWDC Those screenshots still look hideous with liquid glass.

Look at the way the conversation and background make a mess of the toolbar buttons. Look at the terrible text entry field inside the messages app.

Look at the lack of structure in the sidebar in messages.

The tab-bar in the App Store is still a mess. On macOS one window has a sensible toolbar (but when you have a proper toolbar you don't actually need button icons and can instead use that space for larger and coloured icons as well as toolbar labels for better discoverability).

Once more trump and his allies prove he cannot be trusted and that he wants only fealty and obedience dressed up as negotiation. Write to your MPs and encourage them to focus on fostering domestic Canadian manufacturing and consumption. Urge them to stand up to this bullying with counter tariffs and export fees. Ask them to stop trying to appease the US by limiting our own digital laws. Appeasement hasn’t worked trump still just wants to break us. If you’ve any remaining US services or regular unnecessary purchases do your best to cut them away.

@nickheer@c.im I know, I read that too, but your new article isn’t consistent with that one. The watch not sending the transcripts to Apple isn’t the only problem. Ghedin is reframing it about perception which isn’t really the problem. “ Unfortunately, we live in a world where everyone is a conspiracy theorist and, paradoxically, so much of what we do is surveilled and recorded. The Apple Watch contributes to both perceptions — even if it does not work that way. ” It isn’t a conspiracy theory, it does work that way. The only nuance is that it’s only the person owning the watch doing the surveilling and recording not Apple. That doesn’t make it that much better.

@nickheer@c.im fair point, I suppose the ads conspiracy is a separate point. I’ll concede that I overreacted to the post and I apologize for the heat in my tone, and for taking the post out of context. Edit: accidentally posted without finishing g my sentence.

@andybold@hachyderm.io @stroughtonsmith@mastodon.social For all of the talk of this being "aqua like" if you put the liquid glass version of pages next to something closer to original aqua it is night and day. Aqua wasn't about making every button a glassy shiny thing, it was also highly usable. Sure the new version looks more "modern" but I would argue it's worse to use. The Window Chrome of Our Discontent

In a WWDC 2011 session, Dan Schimpf explained some of the goals of the refreshed design for Aqua in Mac OS X Lion were “meant to focus the user attention on the active window content”. This sentiment was echoed by John Siracusa in his review of Lion for Ars Technica: Apple says that its goal […]

@_Davidsmith@mastodon.social looks pretty nice other than the really clunky looking right sidebar/tab bar thing along with the hole punch camera. Just really awkward and I wish they would have embraced symmetry in the display and kept those items in a top bar.

@ikenndac@mastodon.social We need new laws that make it clear that just because you summarize the text doesn't mean it isn't illegal surveillance without consent. If this ships I want it to become as reputation destroying to be seen wearing an Apple Watch as it is to support Flock or perv glasses.

@pxlnv@mastodon.social I really wish apple fans would stop whitewashing apples creepiness. What’s at stake isn’t just perception. That’s buying into Apples propaganda and doing their job for them. If the watch could somehow only magically record its owner then it would just be a matter of perception. However, given that it records anyone around it without any form of consent or agreement means this is more than just perception. It means if you are wearing one of the new watches in my presence there’s no reason not to treat you the same way as someone wearing pervert glasses. I do care that Apple can’t see the recording, but that isn’t all that matters, unless you’re asking for consent before every conversation you’re being creepy. My household already has a no pervert glasses rule, it appears I may have to add a new no Apple watch rule as well.
