@IndyRichard@mastodon.scot I'm English by birth with a (noble) Scottish name, and grew up in England, about an hours' drive from the nearest border crossing, which we used regularly.
I've never lived in Scotland, but have lived in Germany for nearly 40 years. It took me many years of absence to finally understand the harsh meaning of the words "North British" which I saw regularly when growing up.
I understand what you're saying, and respect the way you're saying it.

@dalfen@mstdn.social In the film to the Untruth Social post, I could see nothing at all that looked even vaguely like vandalism. Unless he meant the little kid with his hand in the water.

@streetartutopia@mastodon.online I will never again find a good word for Isreal, unless it's a horribly fitting one. Call me anti-semitic if you wish; this statement has nothing to do with the Jewish religion. All you do is prove how poor your knowledge of the English language is.

@IndyRichard@mastodon.scot I had a very good school chum, far brighter than me, and the poor lad was irredeemibly left-handed. They put him through the mill forcing him to write 'in the correct way'. To this day I think it was only his strength of character, and innate intelligence that got him through it all.

@clarkiestar@mas.to Welcome, and thank you for sharing your sister's very sad story. Year of suffering for what? For the remote chance you might be allowed to become the vehicle for somebody's child. I could spit.

@fazalmajid I'm sure it was on an Album my sister had, but I can't identify that. There is however an in concert version to be found on YouTube

Apparently there's also a version of her singing in English, which I haven't heard but I'm afraid that might spoil the melody/lyrics relationship, so I haven't listened to it yet.

@amydiehl@mstdn.social I was only once persuaded by family to join them in a Starbucks. I asked for a small, plain black coffee. I was told we have only large. I asked how big is 'large', and was duly shown the cup. I said 'I will not drink out of a piss pot' turned around and left, with the family reluctantly behind me.
The family have never forgiven me.
Starbucks? I couldn't care less.
I was just surprised to see that an instance on Fediverse, seems to be selling advertising space. It's what I'm here to avoid. How long has it been going on?

If what @mamapanda has just posted, and I have no reason to doubt her, then they might as well be using some proprietary software, but preferably not from MS, and not a calculation prog.; rather a decent database system, but that would need to have decisions made by people who know their onions. Only very rarely have I worked with politicians who fit this description.

@benroyce@mastodon.social @JustRobForNow@mastodon.social @evoterra@podvibes.co To vote or not to vote . . . . I stand by my statement. And while I support a very large proportion of what @benroyce says, I think it would improve his viewpoint of electoral democracy if he were to be able to stop viewing the exhibition in the lobby only through the US letterbox. When there are 30 candidates, and none of them are worth a vote, then it's a tad hard to label the non-voter a moron. It's not always a simple strategy game.

A few days ago I said I'd grown up in England, but I was very lucky and had 2 excellent History teachers, and they, in turn, had an excellent syllabus to work with. So, unlike many 'English kids', I learned, in a non-partisan way, a lot about the Emancipation campaign in Ireland during the 19th C. Later, growing up with 'The Troubles' on the News almost every night of the week, and a brother-in-law in the Brit military I sooned learned the meaning of dumb insolence.
