@beccadax@soincredibly.gay We used a pool noodle ("the gender noodle") to smack the accidental speaker on the top of the head (mainly during game night around the dining room table).

@superbetsy It's a warning there's train/streetcar/something tracks in the pavement whose gaps are wide enough to catch a bike tire (if you hit it wrong and it wrenches your front tire sideways). This happened to my wife one time many years ago: she flew off and landed helmet first (thank goodness for helmets!) and got a bunch of scrapes and a really nasty black eye. For a week or so every time we were in public - starting with the nurses at the ER - I got the worst looks from people making unfortunate assumptions about the cause of said black eye. But she was ok.

So, 9 years or so ago there was this amazing puzzle game Opus Magnum and several of you seeing this used to post crazily pipelined solutions to minimize cycle count (on Twitter, because that's where we were in those olden days).

Anyway, did you know that there was a DLC with a whole new campaign and mechanisms just released?

Just randomly, I shook Rev. Jesse Jackson's hand in a rope line after a speech of his during his presidential run in 1988. RIP

Out walking the dogs, and I come upon, in the middle of the sidewalk, a giant industrial roll of toilet paper and an apparently full bag of Taco Bell food.

“Huh. There’s gotta be a story there.” I say to myself as I pull the dogs away from stealing the bag.

@ericwastl@hachyderm.io I think dropping the global leaderboard and not having the puzzles lead all the way to Christmas Eve will probably help a lot of participants' sanity as well as your own. 😀 (Certainly, as someone who only very rarely got any global score but has some over-competitive tendencies, this feels like a change for my own good.) Thank you for all you've done and continue to do!

The thing I remember most about this was the pole IDs. No labels on the poles themselves, certainly no GPS or anything like that. No, they were identified by starting at a substation and following the line, counting poles, and indicating wherever the line split. So e.g. you'd have a transformer on pole Eastsound-W7L2R1 (go west from Eastsound substation for 7 poles, go left at the branch for 2 more, then the next one on the right). Imagine the linesmen going to do some maintenance driving along counting.

@jrose @Catfish_Man Picking the right one in the first place ( especially the simple but ubiquitous vector vs set) also can be very important for readability because it expresses the intent of what your code is doing so strongly.

@hollie@social.coop @jackbrewster@hachyderm.io they added a feature where if you two-finger tap on the keyboard it selects current word and three-finger tap it selects current paragraph. Previously you had to do this on the text itself, not the keyboard. If you type fast and have multiple fingers down near the same time and iOS recognizes it as this gesture, then you select a bunch of text and immediately replace it with whatever key you hit next.

@octothorpe@mastodon.online @nuthatch@infosec.exchange If it doesn't work for you, totally fine! But for what it's worth, I think midway E2 is her low point. I like her character quite a bit, and think the show is doing a good job of walking the line of her being a grumpy misanthrope without being fundamentally a bad person. By E4 we are starting to learn reasons why she's so distrustful of the hive mind.

@kissane @cabel This really made me think because I used to go back and forth between Seattle and Portland and _saw_ this mural many times. And noticed how bizarre and cool it was. But never thought to do anything about it.
