As @pluralistic has pointed out, AI doesn't need to be good enough to replace you. It only has to be good enough to make management _think_ it's good enough to replace you.

From the article:
"At this time, the compromise only involves only the npm package for the CLI. Bitwarden’s Chrome extension, MCP server, and other legitimate distributions have not been affected yet."

I used one of these with my Sega Genesis on an old TV (old for even that time). When the screen went white the whole basement buzzed.

I was just looking at this recently and, at least officially, the web app is the only way to use Proton Drive on Linux, though they did recently give their 2026 roadmap and this support is listed!

As far as choosing a distro, not sure of your previous experience, but Linux Mint is usually a safe recommendation.
@MyWildlifeAllotment
You know, I have been thinking of doing a similar thing with my property, just an absolute overabundance of plant life. Is there a particular method to your madness, any good garden planning books or guidelines you go by?
@nixCraft
Well this is interesting:
"This payload takes a different approach: the ideological branding is embedded directly in the malware, from the Shai-Hulud repository names to the "Butlerian Jihad" manifesto payload to commit messages proclaiming resistance against machines."

I think there might be a non-zero chance that KDE Neon is killed before they even rebase to Ubuntu 26.04 (which was several months later anyway). The project has been partially dead for some time, and KDE Linux is clearly the future distro for them.

My dad is basically doing the same thing with guitars in his retirement. "I will fix it for free, but it might take several months." Everyone is happy.
@markwyner@mas.to
First of all, this is super cool of you! Thank you for helping others.
But mainly, what advice do you have for someone who has worked in the dev space (really, manual QA) and is just not on board for the inevitability of all the things going AI? I guess learning a trade and starting over in your early 40s is doable, but the scenario ... just sucks.

Based on how Proton talks about it, I guess every other distro's "support" for proton drive was a hack. Probably not to be relied upon, until Proton themselves release something official.
